Javier Leal: Exercise 6 - Fives (3+2)

Here’s an idea I used a few times on the Marked Sky record. It’s a 5-note grouping (3+2) over a 4/4 rhythm, so the challenge is feeling the groove of the rhythmic displacement. It might take some time for it to settle in rhythmically. The “3” part outlines an Add9 shape, and the “2” uses a 5th or 6th interval to complete the phrase. When I play the group of 2, I notice I don’t move my fingers much — it’s more of an arm-driven motion, which feels more natural and fluid to me. TAB in standard tuning at the end. More phrasing ideas coming soon. Javier Leal Music
