The Western Front: Eureka – A Lost Chapter of AOR Rediscovered
For four decades, the history of early-80s rock has been defined by giants like TOTO, Journey, and Foreigner. However, the release of Eureka finally unveils the "missing chapter" of AOR history—a classic album that remained unheard by the public for over 40 years.
The Band
The Western Front was a supergroup of sorts, comprised of seasoned rock luminaries and world-class session players:
- Scott Gorham: Thin Lizzy, Black Star Riders
- Marty Walsh: Supertramp, John Fogerty
- Darrell Verdusco: Mark Knopfler, Van Morrison
- Richard “Moon” Calhoun: Chaka Khan, Andy Gibb
- Derek Bergmann: Yvonne Elliman, Jeff Barry
- Dennis O'Donnell: Veteran music executive and guitarist
The Story of Eureka
Originally slated for a mid-80s release, Eureka was tragically shelved due to label upheaval at Atlantic Records. The tapes remained "caught in a bottle" until 2023, when renewed interest and a recommendation from Toto legend Steve Lukather led to a successful deal with the Mascot Label Group.
Legacy
Released more than four decades after its inception, Eureka is a triumph of lost rock history. Featuring twelve tracks that retain their original electricity, the album serves as the long-overdue debut of a band that stands toe-to-toe with the titans of the AOR era.
