Biography
Unlucky Morpheus, affectionately known by fans as "Ankimo," is a Japanese symphonic power metal band originally formed in 2008 as a doujin music circle by vocalist Fuki and guitarist Shiren. The project initially gained a massive cult following by creating blazing fast, highly technical heavy metal arrangements of soundtracks from the Touhou Project video game series.
Over the years, Unlucky Morpheus evolved into a full-fledged, six-piece powerhouse and began focusing heavily on highly successful original material. Their signature sound is characterized by extreme tempos, intricate neo-classical shredding (courtesy of a dual-guitar attack), classical violin, and the dynamic "beauty and the beast" vocal contrast between Fuki's soaring, operatic cleans and Shiren's harsh death metal growls. They operate entirely independently, making their chart success and sold-out major venues all the more impressive.
