Chad Wackerman, born on March 25, 1960, in Long Beach, California, is widely celebrated as one of the most technically accomplished and versatile drummers in modern jazz fusion and rock. After beginning his professional career in 1978 playing with jazz trombonist Bill Watrous, he achieved widespread acclaim during a seminal seven-year tenure with Frank Zappa starting in 1981. With Zappa, he toured the globe and appeared on 26 albums, including ambitious projects like the London Symphony Orchestra recordings. Following Zappa, he became a longtime collaborator and touring partner with guitar legend Allan Holdsworth, while also contributing high-profile session work for artists such as Steve Vai, Steven Wilson, Barbra Streisand, and Andy Summers. Renowned for combining rock power with complex jazz finesse, he is equally active as a solo bandleader, composer, and educator.
