Joshua De La Victoria
Joshua De La Victoria is an American progressive metal guitarist, composer, and visual director based in Los Angeles. First building a dedicated following through his solo project Victoria and intricate online guitar performance showcases, he established himself as a premier voice in modern technical guitar playing. Known for complex chord-melody layering, fluid legato runs, and innovative rhythmic frameworks inspired by progressive giants, De La Victoria combines blistering fretboard mechanics with deep atmospheric composition. Alongside his work in Portraits, he is an accomplished director and editor, crafting cinematic visual media for the modern instrumental music community.
Joseph Anidjar
Joseph Anidjar is a multi-instrumentalist, technical guitar virtuoso, producer, and mix engineer. Rising through the progressive underground scene as the primary writer and guitarist for the math-core/djent band Bird Problems (releasing the acclaimed 2017 album Tar), Anidjar became widely respected for his uncompromising compositional depth and ear for heavy, intricate textures. As an independent audio engineer, he handles the mixing, engineering, and sound design for a multitude of progressive projects. His playing style bridges aggressive, polyrhythmic riffing with expansive, jazz-infused harmonic voicings.
The Project: Portraits
Formed as a collaborative studio powerhouse, De La Victoria and Anidjar joined forces to create Portraits, blurring the lines between technical djent, math-rock, and hook-driven alternative music (stylistically sitting somewhere between Animals as Leaders, Intervals, and The 1975). Operating entirely on a DIY and self-produced ethos, the duo writes, records, mixes, and visualizes their material completely independently, frequently collaborating with elite rhythm-section players like bassist Jacob Umansky (Intervals) and drummer Troy Wright.
