Biography
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Michael Angelo Batio (often abbreviated as MAB) is widely celebrated as one of the fastest and most technically proficient guitarists of all time. A pioneer of modern shred and neoclassical metal, Batio is internationally famous for his ambidextrous playing style—capable of playing right- and left-handed guitars simultaneously—and as the inventor of the iconic double- and quad-guitars.
After beginning his career in the mid-1980s with the heavy metal band Holland and co-founding the acclaimed glam/speed metal band Nitro (alongside vocalist Jim Gillette), Batio launched a prolific solo career and founded his own independent label, M.A.C.E. Music. He is also well-known across the guitar community for his highly influential instructional video and DVD series, including Speed Kills.
