Scott Ian (born Scott Rosenfeld) is an American musician, best known as the rhythm guitarist, co-founder, and primary lyricist of the legendary thrash metal band Anthrax. Formed in New York in 1981 alongside bassist Danny Lilker, Ian helped pioneer the "Big Four" of thrash metal alongside Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer. Instantly recognizable by his trademark goatee, aggressive right-hand downpicking style, and energetic stage presence, Ian is also celebrated for bridging the gap between metal and hip-hop via Anthrax's historic 1991 collaboration with Public Enemy on "Bring the Noise".
