Billy Gibbons: Emmy Award-winning online music series Skyville Live has announced the initial lineup for a special Guitar Greats show

GUITAR GREATS BILLY GIBBONS, ROBERT RANDOLPH AND BLACKYBERRY SMOKE FRONTMAN CHARLIE STARR ANNOUNCED FOR SKYVILLE LIVE ON MAY 4
NASHVILLE – (April 24, 2017) – Emmy Award-winning online music series Skyville Live has announced the initial lineup for a special Guitar Greats show on May 4 featuring Billy Gibbons, Robert Randolph and Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke. These celebrated singers, songwriters and guitarists will bring some of their biggest hits to the Skyville Live stage as they showcase the genre-defying power of the instrument. With additional artists to be announced shortly, full details on the May 4 show, including streaming details, can be found at SkyvilleLive.com.
“Billy, Robert and Charlie are all guitar heroes and speak to the wealth of great guitarists across genres that captivate us and steal the stage with their exceptional skill,” comments Wally Wilson, creator of Skyville Live. “We wanted to celebrate the wonderful legacy of these impassioned players and vocalists with this electrifying lineup.”
Beginning at 7 PM CT on Thursday, May 4, the latest edition of Skyville Live will also feature the Skyville Live band of industry elites. Led by guitarist Kenny Greenberg, the band features the best session musicians around including Steve Mackey (bass), Fred Eltringham (drums), Mike Rojas (keys) and a horn section conducted by Roy Agee and backup singers.
Unique and unexpected pairings will add to the growing list of once-in-a-lifetime collaborations delivered only by Skyville Live, from Lady Antebellum, Jason Isbell, Jewel, Brandy Clark and Amanda Shires bringing down the house with Kris Kristofferson on his classic “Me and Bobby McGee” to a fiery take on “Come to My Window” with Cam joining Melissa Etheridge on stage to the impassioned performance of Steve Earle’s “Pilgrim” featuring the acclaimed songwriter alongside Emmylou Harris, Brothers Osborne, Margo Price and Colter Wall.
A legendary master of the six-string, Billy Gibbons is widely regarded as one of America’s finest guitarists working in the blues-rock idiom. A centerpiece and one third of ZZ Top, the band’s sound owes much to his uncanny knack to squeeze unheard of sounds from his electric guitar that resonate with the blues, pop, R&B, country, gospel, western, hillbilly and West African influences that coalesced when Rock ‘N’ Roll was born. As a vocalist, his down and dirty growl is unmistakable; he sounds ominous and mirthful at the same time as listeners to such hits as “La Grange,” “Sharp Dressed Man,” and “Cheap Sunglasses” can attest. Coming together in 1969, ZZ Top is the longest running major rock band still composed of its original members and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
In 2015, Concord Records released Perfectamundo, the debut solo album from Gibbons, with backing by a handpicked group of stellar musicians. The album received both critical laudation and commercial success, topping the Billboard’s blues chart for a number of weeks.
Robert Randolph is a renowned pedal steel guitarist, vocalist and songwriter who is credited with taking sacred steel music from the church into the mainstream, fusing traditional sounds with elements of rock, funk, soul and jazz. On “Got Soul” - which features guest artists Anthony Hamilton, Darius Rucker and Cory Henry - Robert Randolph & the Family Band walk that line deftly, displaying their virtuosity within the context of a dozen smartly crafted tunes. Robert has shared the stage with guitar legends like Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana. In 2010 Rolling Stone Magazine named Robert one of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.”
Charlie Starr is the lead singer and guitarist of the acclaimed American country-rock band Blackberry Smoke. The 5-piece band's acclaimed new album “Like An Arrow,” which features special guest Gregg Allman, recently debuted at No. 1 on both Billboard’s Country Albums and Americana Albums charts as well as No. 3 on Billboard’s Rock Albums chart. Known for their impressive live performances, the band has toured relentlessly, building a strong and loyal community of fans.

Billy Gibbons: Orange Amplification - Billy Becomes a New Ambassador
Orange Amplification: Billy Gibbons Becomes New Ambassador
Orange Amplification are delighted to welcome ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons as an Ambassador for the Orange Bax Bangeetar pedal. He has recently discovered Orange’s new British made guitar and bass Pre-EQ pedal and said ‘Lovin’ this thing!! It’s revealed itself as a true tone chameleon ….. super versatile.’
Billy Gibbons is best known as the guitarist and lead singer with the American Rock band ZZ Top, which he formed in the late sixties with bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard. They remain one of the very few major recording groups to have retained the same line up for more than 45 years. ZZ Top were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 with four of their albums certified gold, three as platinum and two as multi-platinum. Their songs have become classic and hard rock staples.
As a guitarist, Billy Gibbons is a respected blues scholar with an instinctive touch. His legendary mastery of his instrument is something many guitarists spend a lifetime achieving. Regarded as one of rock’s leading tone-meisters, Billy honed signature sound, drawn from a deep knowledge of blues / rock traditions, is full of catchy, meaty riffs and sublime solos. He is not known for using pedals and effects so Orange is particularly proud that he has chosen to use the Bax Bangeetar, both on stage and in the studio.
The Orange Bax Bangeetar was the company's first foray into the pedal market in more than forty years. Handmade in the Orange Custom Shop, England, the pedal feels and behaves like an Orange amp, delivering natural break-up, without any hint of stifling compression. The Bax Bangeetar has a huge dynamic range producing classic Orange crunch and vintage overdrive at moderate gain settings, increase the drive levels to yield a wealth of outrageous modern tones with insane amounts of distortion on offer. It has a unique flexible gain structure, giving it extensive tweaking capabilities. With the Baxandall EQ and full parametric mid controls allowing complete command over a broad frequency range its response is almost infinite.

Check out ‘a great pedal that nails the Orange sound’ (Total Guitar) at https://orangeamps.com/bax-bangeetar/ where you can hear designer Adrian Emsley putting it through its paces.

Billy Gibbons: Perfectamundo - Treat Her Right - new album and tour dates
Perfectamundo is a blend of Blues, Jazz, Latin and Rock. The album was inspired by Billy's early influence of Cuban Jazz and studying Latin percussion at an early age. The album takes on a bit of an Afro-Cuban flavor that may come as a surprise to some Gibbons fans and followers – refreshingly unexpected but most predictably – Perfectamundo. ¡Escuchemos!

Billy Gibbons: is working on a solo album inspired by Cuban music
Billy Gibbons is working on a solo album inspired by Cuban music – and he took advice from Foo Fighters mainman Dave Grohl before deciding to take the project seriously.
And despite his blues background, he describes the side-project as something of a return to his roots.
Gibbons tells Rolling Stone: “When I was 13 I got a guitar and my dad, being the consummate entertainer, sent me to New York to study Latin percussion.
“I learned maracas, timbales, clavas, bongos – you name it. And having lived in Mexico a couple of years, I know just enough Spanish to get me in trouble.”
He adds: “It’s turning out to be such an obtuse, oddball, unexpected left-turn from ZZ Top. But there is something to it.”
He’s nearing completion on the work, before rejoining his main outfit to resume the touring plans that were interrupted when Dusty Hill suffered a tour bus fall.

Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, Frank Beard: ZZ Top @ The Joint (Las Vegas) 08-16-14 - Jack Lue Series

ZZ Top @ The Joint (Las Vegas) 08-16-14 Jack Lue Series

ZZ Top (pronounced [zɪː zɪː top]) is an American rock band that formed in 1969 in Houston, Texas.

The band comprises guitarist and lead vocalist Billy Gibbons,

bassist and co-lead vocalist Dusty Hill, and drummer Frank Beard.

One of the few major label recording groups to have held the same lineup for more than forty years, ZZ Top has been praised by critics and fellow musicians alike for their technical mastery. Of the group, music writer Cub Koda said "As genuine roots musicians, they have few peers; Gibbons is one of America's finest blues guitarists working in the arena rock idiom ... while Hill and Beard provide the ultimate rhythm section support."[1]

Since the release of the band's debut album in January 1971, ZZ Top has become known for its strong blues roots and humorous lyrical motifs, relying heavily on double entendres and innuendo. ZZ Top's musical style has changed over the years, beginning with blues-inspired rock on their early albums, then incorporating new wave, punk rock and dance-rock, with heavy use ofsynthesizers. One of the best-selling musical artists in history, the band has had global album sales in excess of 50 million as of 2014.[5]

ZZ Top was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. As a group, ZZ Top possesses 11 gold records and 7 platinum (13 multi-platinum) records; their 1983 album, Eliminator, remains the group's most commercially successful record, selling over 10 million units. ZZ Top also ranks 80th in U.S. album sales, with 25 million units. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZZ_Top

Billy Gibbons, Jeff Beck: ZZ Top and Jeff Beck Set to Kick-Off Extensive U.S. Tour This Week
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees and mutual admirers ZZ Top and Jeff Beck have almost a century’s worth of combined touring experience under their collective belts are less than one week away from embarking on their first ever tour together. The tour is formatted to offer a free-standing set from Jeff Beck, a free-standing set from ZZ Top and a joint performance wherein Beck joins the ZZ Top for a rocking finale.
On the heels of releasing Live At Montreux 2013 DVD/Blu-ray through Eagle Rock Entertainment and The Baddest of ZZ Top CD/2CD retrospective from Warner Bros, “that little ol’ band from Texas” will be cranking out classics such as “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Legs” and “Tush.” The lineup of Billy F Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard has been holding steady for over 44 years - an unprecedented feat in the rock.
Jeff Beck’s touring band will consist of Grammy nominee and Flash-era vocalist Jimmy Hall (Wet Willie), bassist Rhonda Smith, drummer Jonathan Joseph, and guitarist Nicolas Meier.
21-year-old Texas guitar prodigy Tyler Bryant had recently been announced as the opening act for the vast majority of the tour dates. Bryant already has experience as an opener for Jeff Beck, and also cut his teeth on bills with Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, BB King, Heart, Vince Gill, and many others.
While ZZ Top and Jeff Beck have never toured together before, this is not the first live collaboration between the two camps. Billy Gibbons joined Beck and his band on stage at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 at Madison Square Garden, where they performed the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s “Foxey Lady” and ZZ Top’s hit “Rough Boy” together. The following year Beck joined ZZ Top in Lucca, Italy for an extended rendition of the band’s signature piece “La Grange.”
The excitement is brewing between the musicians. Jeff Beck proclaimed, “Ever since Eliminator I thought it would be great to play with ZZ Top.”
Likewise, Billy Gibbons, who has long viewed the English fret master as a musical role model going back to his days in the Yardbirds, has declared his admiration for the man behind the platinum selling albums Blow By Blow and Wired. “We could never figure out what Beck was doing on his instrument to get those sounds, and it was that mystery that inspired us to push our own sound to the next level.” Gibbons continues, “It is an honor to be sharing the stage with the curator of crunch.”

Jeff Beck, Billy Gibbons: ZZ Top and Jeff Beck to embark on US summer tour
JEFF BECK AND ZZ TOP TO EMBARK ON NATIONAL SUMMER TOUR
This August will see long time music legends and mutual admirers, ZZ Top and Jeff Beck on tour together for the first time. The tour launches in Missoula, MT on August 8 and will run for five weeks with stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Denver, Detroit, Boston and NYC . . . (more dates TBA).
Formatted with musical synergy in mind, stops along the touring route will offer fans a full Jeff Beck set, followed by a full ZZ Top set, with a finale that joins the English fret master with the Texas rockers for a collaboration each night of the tour.
ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, speaking on behalf of band mates Dusty Hill and Frank Beard, noted that Beck has long been a source of musical inspiration from the time when Beck played in the Yardbirds, the seminal hard blues-based Britrock band. Gibbons commented, “Ever since experiencing ‘Jeff’s Boogie,’ the prospect of performance with Jeff Beck on the deck brings us into focus with the curator of crunch.”
Likewise, Beck has been an enduring fan of ZZ Top, from even before their ascendance in popularity in the 70s and 80s. He remarked, “Ever since Eliminator I thought it would be great to play with ZZ Top,” and went on to declare Billy Gibbons, “The Professor of Grunge.”
This tour is not the first live collaboration between the two camps. Gibbons joined Jeff Beck and his band on stage at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 at New York’s Madison Square Garden, where they performed The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s “Foxey Lady” and ZZ Top’s hit “Rough Boy” together. The following year Jeff Beck joined ZZ Top in Lucca, Italy for an extended rendition of the band’s signature piece “La Grange.” This, however, marks the first time Jeff Beck and ZZ Top will have done any sort of extensive touring together.
ZZ Top, formed in the Houston area of Texas in 1969, became a huge national touring act in the 70s and darlings of MTV in the 80s, going on to sell tens of millions of records. Their unique hybrid of dirty blues, hard rock, incorporating new sounds and technology, earned them induction into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 with Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones doing the honors.
Jeff Beck, a native of London and two-time Rock And Roll Hall of Famer (with The Yardbirds in 1992, and on his own in 2009), helped set the template in the 60s for the solo-heavy, feedback-laden, rock guitar hero archetype. He formed the Jeff Beck Group by the end of that decade with then-unknown vocalist Rod Stewart, eventually going solo, with forays into fusion and beyond in the mid-70s. Beck, like ZZ Top, has continually incorporated new sounds and technologies into his work throughout his half-century long career. Lately, Beck has been working on a new studio album, his first since the 2010 release of the critically acclaimed Emotion & Commotion, which earned him two Grammy Awards and the highest charting debut in his career.

Billy Gibbons: You can't lose with the blues
Jeb: On a serious note, ZZ Top have achieved more success than any band can ever hope for. You are American musical icons. Why do feel people like me love your music so much?
Rev. Willy G: Not really a big secret; we've said it more than once: You can't lose with the blues. We fell into a groove at the start and we just kept at it and have no intention of letting go now that we're staring to get good at it.

Billy Gibbons: Lynyrd Skynyrd join La Grange Fest in Austin Texas
ZZ Top’s First Annual La Grange Fest in Austin, TX. It’s a ZZ Top-hosted music festival set for Saturday, October 22. Joining ZZ Top are Lynyrd Skynyrd and country singer Jamey Johnson. Just added to the show, for a very special acoustic set, is Slipknot and Stone Sour lead vocalist Corey Taylor, the multiplatinum selling, New York Times best-selling author and Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter in two of the most successful bands in rock music today.
"I really can't say how excited I am to be sharing the stage with Skynyrd and ZZ Top!" says Taylor. "Just from a fan's point of view, I can't wait to see these bands. I'm trying to figure out what I can bring to the table, but I'll do my very best. And of course, it's always good to be back in Texas!!"
Says ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons, "We're looking forward to having a good time with all of our friends and fans on the 22nd. Down Austin way is gonna be the place to be that day, doncha know..."

AN ECLECTIC COLLECTION OF MAJOR ARTISTS PAY HOMAGE TO ZZ TOP ON NEW ALBUM OUT OCTOBER 11
The music and legacy of ZZ TOP - “That Little ol’ Band from Texas,” that has been part of the world’s musical landscape for over 40 years - will be celebrated with the October 11th release of A TRIBUTE FROM FRIENDS.
The album, to be released by Show Dog-Universal Music, features 11 classic ZZ Top songs interpreted by top-flight artists working in a broad range of musical genres. All of the album’s tracks have been newly recorded, specifically for the project. These include Filter’s performance of “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” Grace Potter & The Nocturnals’ take on “Tush,” as well asWyclef Jean’s “Rough Boy,” “Legs” from Nickelback and Wolfmother’s interpretation of “Cheap Sunglasses.”
The album kicks off with “Sharp Dressed Man,” from The M.O.B., Mick Fleetwood’s ad hoc group that includes fellow Fleetwood Mac founder John McVie as well as Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and guitar great Jonny Lang. Fleetwood commented, “We’re delighted to honor ZZ Top this way. Their legacy, like that of the original Fleetwood Mac, is steeped in the blues we all love so much. I know that Steven and Jonny feel as strongly about their legacy as John and I do.”
After Billy F Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard, the original--and continuing-- members of ZZ Top were informed that A Tribute From Friends was in the offing, they issued the following statement:
“When we were told there was going to be a ZZ Top tribute album a while ago and logically asked, ‘Who are we paying tribute to?’ Then we found out that a bunch of great artists were paying tribute to us and we were in disbelief. For the past forty or so years, all we've done is get out there and crank it and try to have a good time while doing so. To a great extent, we've succeeded since we're still having a good time so that would be reward enough for ‘the same three guys playing the same three chords.’ Now comes A Tribute From Friends and we're so delighted that our music resonates with these great musicians whom we so admire.”
A Tribute From Friends also includes “Waitin’ for the Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago” by Daughtry, “Got Me Under Pressure” from Duff McKagan’s LOADED and Mastodon’s version of “Just Got Paid.” Coheed & Cambria contributed the anthemic “Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers” while country superstar Jamey Johnson’s track is the seminal “La Grange.” Of their invitation to be a part of the album, lead singer Chris Daughtry said, “We were completely honored! A classic great band with amazing songs? We're in!” And of ZZ Top’s music, “It's classic! Simple chord progressions, great riffs with hooky choruses...very inspiring to a band like us.”
The co-executive producer of A Tribute From Friends is Carl Stubner, ZZ Top’s manager, who noted, “A Tribute From Friends underscores the legacy of ZZ Top in the most musical way possible and illustrates just how important Billy, Dusty and Frank have been to successive generations. It was a privilege to work with the pantheon of brilliant artists who contributed their efforts and so much love to this project.”
Since Billy, Dusty and Frank founded ZZ TOP on the last day of 1969, the band has been responsible for the worldwide sale of over 50 million records highlighted by many of the very same songs heard on A Tribute From Friends as well many others including “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Pearl Necklace,” “I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide,” “Tube Snake Boogie” and a score of smash hit albums that include the RIAA Diamond Award winning (10 million sold) Eliminator as well as gold and platinum winners Afterburner, Fandango!, Deguello, Recycler, Antenna, El Loco, Tejas, Tres Hombres plus compilation sets. Their hit repertoire, iconic and award-winning videos and massive touring schedule has made them a favorite with audiences throughout the world and beyond – they previewed a track from their forthcoming album aboard the Soyuz space vehicle. They are recipients of the Texas Cultural Trust’s 2011 Texas Medal of the Art and had previously been named “Official Texas Heroes” by the state's House of Representatives. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones in 2004 who cited the band’s remarkable consistency and longevity and, first and foremost, the fact that ZZ Top is “steeped in the blues,” calling them “the heartbeat of the whole country and the heartbeat of rock ‘n’ roll.”
