David Wallimann: Should You Start a Youtube Channel?

Many guitar players have asked me if they should start a Youtube channel and if they can make money on Youtube. The answer is yes, but... In this video I will be as transparent as I can and share with you how much money I am making with the Youtube advertisement program, what the job means and other ways to monetize the channel.
Let's talk!

In this video I want to show you around my studio, how I make YouTube videos and some of my gear.

I use the Sling Studio for the live camera switching. I also use three Panasonic Lumix cameras.

The Sling Studio acts as the hub for the entire studio, it creates its own wireless connection and allows me to record everything into a dedicated hard drive. All of that is controlled with the free app on my Ipad.

As far as the audio goes, for my voice I use a Rode pin mic. My guitar, amps, backing tracks, etc. are connected to my sound card, a MOTU 1248. As I record the video, I'm recording all these audio sources into Logic Pro, too.

I run my Backing Tracks in the Transcribe App using the Infinity Usb Foot Controller.

Once the recording is done I plug the hard drive into my computer and export the one video file. Because all the camera switching is done in real time I only have to edit the mistakes. Finally, I'll add the intro and outro.

This setup allows me to work less time, but being much more efficient!

What Is The Most Important Music Lesson You Learned?

David Wallimann: What Should Guitar Players Practice? - Masterclass Session #11

On today's masterclass I'll help you discover the key to a better practicing routine following these easy steps:

1. Start by improvising over a sustained chord, loop or backing track.

2. Stop when you feel uncomfortable with anything in your playing.

3. Identify the problematic area (if it was your rhythm playing, technique, note choice, etc.)

4. Come up with something similar to what you attempted to play and didn't quite work the first time. Once you are able to reproduce it you can zoom in on what is causing the problem. That should be the first subject of your practicing session.

5. Find similar licks or parts and practice them around the neck until you feel comfortable with that type of phrasing.

6. Go back at the improvising step until you find another area that you need to work on (could be another difficulty or something interesting that you want to explore more) That would be the next subject of your practicing session.

Awareness and honesty about your playing are the key to more productive practice routines.

David Wallimann: Melodic Guitar Contest

I am super excited to announce a fun inspiring guitar contest that will put your musical chops to the test. This is a melodic theme development contest open to anyone in the world.

The object is to create a super catchy theme that will grab the listener's attention right away. Your theme should not need any introduction. Your job is to capture the listener's attention right from the first few notes. As a matter of fact, I will only listen to the first few seconds of your solo. That's usually all it takes for a listener to make a decision as to committing to listening to the rest of your song anyways.

Entering is super easy, and if you are amongst the 3 selected players you will receive a $50 Amazon gift card, and be featured on Guitar Playback's Facebook and Twitter pages.

Here is how you can enter:

1. Download this backing track (right click and “save as"): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7...
2. Video yourself playing your theme over the track
3. Upload your video to Youtube
4. Name your video "Guitar Playback Melodic Theme Contest"
5. Submit your entry here: https://goo.gl/4XOzwG

The contest officially ends September 20th.
Results will be announced on a newsletter September 30th
You can enter as many times as you want!

David Wallimann: points out YouTube change that will affect ALL future youtube guitar competitions

The newest service to face discontinuation by Google is the video response system from YouTube. Google has decided that the feature will be axed on September 12 this year.  A very low percentage of uptake of less than 0.0004 percent has forced Google to axe the feature from YouTube.
The team is focused on enabling you to share video links in comments. Doing this in comments will let creators and viewers add more context to a video, and more context should drive more engagement. In the meantime, you can continue to encourage fans to upload videos with specific titles, hashtags or descriptions (e.g., Video Response To Taylor Swift's Video "22"), so you can find these by searching for them. If you want to highlight them, you can use playlists and channel sections instead of displaying these videos below yours. Any video responses you or your fans have made will still be available and discoverable.
http://thenextweb.com/google/2013/08/28/google-is-removing-video-responses-on-youtube-from-september-12-due-to-low-engagement/

Youtube is removing video uploads on September 12th. If you are not able to add a video as a video response for the 60 seconds guitar solo contest, use the form athttp://www.guitarplayback.com/contest

David Wallimann,Chris Brooks,Pete Thorn,GearMannDude: fighting to tell you all about the Wampler Dual Fusion Overdrive!!!

Find out more about Wampler's Tom Quayle signature Dual Fusion at http://www.wamplerpedals.com/signatur...

The Dual Fusion pedal from Wampler Pedals is, we think, the first overdrive pedal specifically voiced to the new breed of fusion guitarists.

Fusion in its current form is a fairly new concept, with roots not only in theoretical jazz but rock; not classic blues based rock, but the more technically advanced "shredders" that first became popular in the mid to late 80's.

The new fusion players have spent years honing their craft. With the advent of internet guitar lessons, people all over the world are looking towards fusion as the new style of musical expression, the modern era of soloists that are taking the instrument another stage further.

One of the forerunners of this genre is Tom Quayle. Tom is the UK's finest and most in demand exponent of modern fusion. With a rich theoretical knowledge, a student base that contains not only "regular" players but also some absolute stellar names in the industry, and a pair of ears that are completely unforgiving he has never been able to locate a pedal he can use that allows him to be the guitarist he truly is.

When we first met Tom in early 2012, he was already using our Euphoria and Paisley Drive stacked together to give him the tones he required. But something wasn't quite right; those pedals are voiced for other genres of music altogether so we set about honing the tones to match his style of playing. He needed more transparency, a tighter and controlled response on the bass end and when stacked up they needed to sound and feel like an amp running at high levels and give each string complete clarity and response.

Over a year later, we have the Dual Fusion. With two independent circuits that are based, but are completely modified, on the Euphoria and Paisley Drive, Tom finally has a tone that can be used when he is in full flow as a musician.

The Wampler Pedals Dual Fusion, the first pedal to be specifically voiced for the fastest growing breed of musicians around. With the most versatile stacking/signal path options available on an analog pedal, it is the foundation of modern Fusion... Add into the the versatility you expect from Wampler Pedals, the Dual Fusion will appeal to guitarists from all genre's at all levels.

Entering its fourth year Dweezilla 2013 is offering the most comprehensive modern guitar training course. The charge is summed up in this year's camp battle cry: Learn and Destroy! Propelled by this mantra the goal of this incredible gathering is to turn you on to innovative playing and tone creation methods that are designed to inspire you to break down your barriers and have the confidence to open your eyes to playing without boundaries.

Dweezil and his crew want nothing more than to help you break down any walls that may be blocking your creativity thus allowing you the freedom to explore your truest musical expression. To make this goal a reality as well as bolster the the learning experience Dweezil is offering a completely new approach to the Dweezilla concept. “The guitar is such a versatile instrument and deserves to have a multi-contextual training program. I wanted to create an environment where distinctively modern styles could be taught in conjunction with in-depth tone laboratory workshops. Tone is the delivery system to the audience. The character of your sound is as important as the notes you play and I think it’s important to explore this topic in detail.”

Dweezilla 2013 will take place July 1-5 at the Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, New York. This guitar summit will feature specially invited guest instructors. “I had the idea to ask guitarists whom I consider to be at the forefront of modern guitar to join me as teachers this year. I’m really excited about it because besides being amazinguitarists they are also extremely adept at imparting their knowledge in easy, compartmentalized ways.”

"I had the idea to ask guitarists whom I consider to be at the forefront of modern guitar to join me as teachers this year. I'm really excited about it because besides being amazing guitarists they are also extremely adept at imparting their knowledge in easy, compartmentalized ways." -Dweezil Zappa

The rigorous daily student schedule will include master classes with Dweezil and his guest instructors: Tom Quayle, Chris Buono, David Wallimann, Derryl Gabel and Oz Noy. On the guitar sound design front, Fractal Audio's Matt Picone and James Santiago will hold court with daily workshops on the Axe-Fx II, MFC-101 and more!

As always students of all skill levels are welcome. However, this year's classes are specifically designed to accommodate smaller groups of students with comparable skill levels so that they can assimilate the information at an appropriate pace. This will also allow students to find the best practice groups for their playing level bolstering lesson review and implementation. But, to help us help you you'll need to fill out the Skill Assessment document honestly so we can help place you in the right group! Don't worry - the teaching staff has a mind bending assortment of lessons replete with finger twisting exercises and insanely cool sounds and ideas for every student.
