Neal Nagaoka,Shane Gibson: Evangelist - a tribute to Shane

Neal Nagaoka
This was a tune my friend Ermon Harris wrote, played bass and recorded in my studio featuring good buddy, the late Shane Gibson. The song was called Evangelist. We recorded several guitar solos that session and as a little tribute to Shane Gibson, I took a few of his solos and even one that I did to make this short little instrumental version of my friends tune. RIP Shane.

Neal Nagaoka: Amin to Cmin and D minor jam progression - testing HD video production with some nice improvisation

A simple Amin to Cmin jam progression I improvised over. The video is only 1 min long in High Definition. 1.13 Gig file so I made it as short as possible!! I think this will take 3x as long to actually upload than it did to record, make and render the video!!

Neal Nagaoka: Midi Guitar 64 Software Experiment

This is an experiment with a new beta software called MIDI Guitar that I just got. It doesn't require a midi pickup and converts the actual notes of a guitar into a MIDI signal. I just picked a simple progression to jam in Band In A Box to demo this using Amplitube synced with MIDI Guitar 64 software's built in Synth Brass patch and layered the two sounds in unison to improvise over. The midi tracking isn't perfect and there is a slight latency still so you can't play too fast but it's pretty good so I thought it would be a neat thing to try.

Neal Nagaoka: Brahms Hungarian Dance #5

This is a rock version of Brahms Hungarian Dance #5 that I am arranging for guitar. It was done on the spot and a bit rough. I recorded this on video just in case I forget how to play it later! :-)

Neal Nagaoka: ESP LTD M-JR 3/4 scale guitar - mini-m-i

A short little 1 min demo of my new toy I just got. A 3/4 scale guitar that I call "mini-m-i". This lil guy doesn't sound too bad either. Just have to get used to the smaller scale. :-)

Neal Nagaoka: get on the terrifying shredder list!

Neal Nagaoka
OK I have finally decided to retire my young guns column and change the format to a regular spotlight type website instead. It's getting too hard to find new young talent each month so I decided to just make it a Terrifying Shredder column instead starting July. I think Im going to regret this but..... If anyone is interested in being listed and feel worthy enough to be on the top 5 list for July, feel free to send me a youtube video link and a short bio info. Thanks :-) http://www.shredguitarist.org/.

Neal Nagaoka: Curse Of Tutankhamen

Neal Nagaoka, tries out a AC-30EQM Acoustic for some Latin Jam

This is a HD short plug and play demo on my new AC-30EQM Acoustic Electric guitar that I got from ESP Guitars. I plugged in the guitar direct to the board with a little bit of reverb and improvised over the default Latin progression in Garage band in the key of F min. It was recorded the same day I actually got the guitar which was really late at night so I was pretty exhausted, half asleep and not used to playing this guitar yet. It's definitely not perfect but I thought the tone wasn't too bad for a 1st time trial run. The guitar plays very nicely!

Neal Nagaoka: ESP LTD VB-300 Baritone Guitar demo

This is a collage of different ideas that I made using my ESP LTD VB-300 Baritone Guitar in HD. I thought this would be fun to try so I crammed as many different examples as I could think of while trying to make this video as short as possible. The guitar is tuned down a 4th so the string are: B E A D F# B with a 27" scale.

This was an experiment with Whole Tone Scales, Symmetric Diminished Scales, Lydian b7 scales and Tri-tone Intervals. Wanted to see how dark and eerie I could go with these far out sounding notes.

Neal Nagaoka: cool garageband improvisation

This is a HD video of myself improvising over a garage band loop. I was half asleep when I did this so my performance is a bit sloppy. I'll probably get reamed for it but this was basically an experiment to test the sound mix for my guitar and garageband so.
