Jason Becker: the movie winning awards and nominations

Synopsis:

Jason Becker should have been a household name. A guitar prodigy from a young age, Jason burst onto the scene with his band Cacophony, garnering notice from the major industry players. In 1991 Becker was hired as lead guitarist in David Lee Roth’s band, the most coveted guitar gig at the time, but Jason never made it on tour. Shortly after recording the album, he was diagnosed with ALS and given five years to live. Archival footage of Jason’s rise to almost-stardom is given the exposure it deserves with this inspiring rock doc. More than 20 years later, Jason is still living strong and making music by communicating with his eyes. A true testament to the strength and possibility of the human spirit. (HotDocs)

Derryl Gabel: The Performance Series

Derryl Gabel:  Just a reminder, one of my newest guitar instructional videos, Fretboard Intensive Training is now available This two and a half hour, dual layer DVD is a must have for any serious guitarist no matter what style of playing.  Over 100 examples and 78 fretboard diagrams are provided as well as backing tracks to help you achieve fretboard domination and get FIT on guitar!
Here's a few of the testimonials I have received so far...

"Hi, Derryl! You must be the greatest gift to the guitar-playing community! I just hope that more people understand what your instructional releases can do for their development as players. Thank you for your willingness to share from you wealth of guitar-knowledge. You truly are a gem! Thank you!Happy holidays, Derryl! Take good care of your family!  Rune Berre from Norway" (Check this guy out on Youtube.  Excellent player!)

"Hey Derryl I have been checking your FIT video... very good stuff!!You should have done it as first video! :-)CiaoMau from Italy"

"Hey D, Just a quick thank you for adding the "Diagonal Shifting" scale approach on your 2nd FIT DVD.  It's really unlocked the secret I was searching for to Bret Garsed's style.

I've always watched Garsed over and over moving over the fretboard in that sort of "reverse diagonal - major 7 shape" approach, but I could never quite "get it" as to architecture he was using to move around like that on the fretboard - until now!!  I've always been a diagonal player, but only moving in the opposite direction than the way you show on the video (i.e. moving from nut to bridge in direction vs. the way you show on the video).
What you show is almost like seeing the modes in a "reverse" fashion from bridge to nut.  I love it!Oh, and by the way, the 4 note per string patterns on the FIT DVDs are laid out extremely well!!  I'd been looking for a more (shall I say) "scientific" approach to 4 notes per string, but was unable to really find that "one way to do it".
However, your FIT approach of "right, right, middle, middle, left, left, spread" is EXACTLY what I was looking for.  Just realizing that architecture is already making a big difference in my improv skills.
Thanks so much for putting that in the video.  It's simply a spectacular piece of teaching.
Thanks again for a great DVD lesson!Yours,John M. from Michigan USA"
FIT Front Cover
FIT DVD
Fretboard Intensive Training DVDs
Over the years of teaching I've found that many students struggle with visualizing scale patterns. In this two and a half hour dual DVD set I cover exercises that I have developed that will help you to see the entire scale matrix in your minds eye or as you look at the fretboard. This will enable you to create patterns that you might not normally play and traverse the fretboard in any direction with virtually no boundaries. If you learn a new pattern you will be able to see the diatonic development superimposed on the scale matrix. This is useful not only in improvisation but composition as well. I also cover common yet essential tools every guitarist should use such as string dampening, motion efficiency, and proper angles for achieving a greater reach. In addition to this I will show you exercises that will help you develop finger independence, speed, accuracy, and endurance.  Most examples include large, on screen neck diagrams to make it super easy to follow along.
Chapters include...

  1. Introduction
  2. Guitar Setup
  3. Placement and Angles
  4. String Dampening
  5. Isometrics
  6. Motion Efficiency
  7. Speed Picking
  8. Note Recognition
  9. The Major Scale
  10. Modes
  11. Modal Octave Linking
  12. Three Notes Per String
  13. Scale Pattern Numonics
  14. Shifting
  15. Twelve Key Study
  16. Rolling Exercises
  17. Sequencing
  18. Vertical Rolling Shifts
  19. Zigzag Rolling Shifts
  20. Diagonal Rolling Shifts
  21. Diagonal Rolling Shifts 2
  22. Four Notes Per String

Lyrically, “CLOCKWORK ANGELS” chronicles a young man’s quest across a lavish and colorful world of steampunk and alchemy as he attempts to follow his dreams. The story features lost cities, pirates, anarchists, exotic carnival, and a rigid Watchmaker who imposes precision on every aspect of daily life. Marcel Coenen’s debut album “Guitartalk” is one of the most critically praised instrumental releases in Lion Music’s history and gets a special limited edition digipack reissue with an additional bonus track on 23rd May 2012.

http://www.lionmusic.com/cd/guitartalk.htm

Marcel Coenen’s debut album “Guitartalk” is one of the most critically praised instrumental releases in Lion Music’s history and gets a special limited edition digipack reissue with an additional bonus track on 19 May 2012.

Originally released back in 2003, and until now long out of print, “Guitartalk” marked the debut release from Dutch guitar master Marcel Coenen. Known for his work in progressive metal bands Sun Caged and Lemur Voice, Marcel is considered one of the worlds leading modern day rock/metal guitarists and has won a legion of fan worldwide thanks to his solo works, YouTube guitar videos and as a endorser and demonstrator of Laney amplification and Bo-E guitars who have 3 Marcel Coenen signature models in their range!

Whatever the setting, Marcel Coenen is a player perfectly at ease with any chord progression or tempo and “Guitartalk” demonstrates his versatility throughout a myriad of rock guitar stylings. From the Haji's Kitchen meets Meshuggah 7 string drama of opener “Independence Day”, the Racer X like shred of “Race Against Time”, the tender melodic charm of “Inner Alchemy” and “Moira” or indeed the grandiose interpretation of the Dutch national anthem and beyond, “Guitartalk” serves up a master class in guitar expression.

Marcel Coenen, born 21-9-1972, started to play guitar when he was 11 years old. He learned a lot of musical styles, everything from some jazz and classical to rock and blues. His first real band was thrash metal outfit Speedica. In 1993 he formed the band Lemur Voice with whom he recorded 2 albums (1996’s Insights & 1999’s Divided). When Lemur Voice disbanded Marcel formed Sun Caged in which he still plays today. In 1998 Marcel was voted “Best Rock Guitarist” at the Dutch National Guitar Awards. “Guitartalk” was originally released independently as a 7 track album in 1998. A year later he added 2 more tracks to it. This current and final version of “Guitartalk” contains all the tracks mentioned before, together with three extra tracks (10-12), all tracks were remastered by Marcel for the original 2003 Lion Music release.

Marcel comments on “Guitartalk”. “This CD was the result of years of long hours of practising, writing, buying and learning how to program a drum machine, buying and learning how to use a 4-track and then recording all the music. It all started out as just 4 tracks. I recorded these songs to enter the Dutch National Guitar contests in 1998. Some songs were ready (some older ideas) and I just recorded those 4 songs to the contest, to my surprise I won “Best Rock Guitarist” of the Netherlands. Those four tracks also appeared on the first “Guitartalk” demo (on cassette). After this I wrote some more songs and put them on a CD edition. For the dutch guitar contest I had to rearrange the national anthem, which I did in a very heavy way. This lead to me getting an endorsement with Ibanez guitars who I played clinics for a few years afterwards before I got my own signature model with Bo-el guitars. The rest of the album is songs I wrote and performed during the early part of the new millennium at clinics around the world. Still today I get a lot of praise about this record and many new fans asking where they can get it on CD. Fortunately this reissue answers that question!”.

Now in 2012 for the limited edition digipack re-release we get the added bonus track of “Six String Souffle”, a cover of Shrapnel Records favourite Joey Tafolla.

Flying Colors began with a simple idea: virtuoso musicians and a pop singer joining together to make new-fashioned music the old fashioned way.  Refreshing, classic, old and new, the songs are saturated with the many styles, tones and hues of the players who in becoming a band have delivered a unique fusion of vintage craftsmanship and contemporary music.
