News: Eastwood Guitars introduces the Warren Ellis Signature Tenor 2P

Eastwood Guitars introduces the Warren Ellis Signature Tenor 2P
Eastwood Guitars introduces the new 2 pickup model of the highly successful Warren Ellis Signature Tenor Guitar. Since the introduction of the single pickup version in September of 2010, the Warren Ellis Signature Tenor Guitar has been a top selling model around the world and the new tone capabilities of the 2P model will continue the momentum.

Based on the award winning 23” Warren Ellis Signature Electric Tenor Guitar, the two pickup model features a solid alder body and a bolt-on maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and the popular custom single coil blade Humbucker in the neck position. This new model adds a NY Mini Humbucker to the bridge position and two slide switches with volume and tone controls. The initial release is available in Sonic Blue with a Tortoiseshell pickguard and chrome hardware.

“The new 2P gives me a better top end and has opened up more possibilities in my writing. I have both on stage with me this month at every Nick Cave and Grinderman show” says co-designer and multi-instrumentalist Warren Ellis.

“Players really get the concept of the Tenor," said Mike Robinson, President and founder of Eastwood Guitars, "it has allowed guitarists to discover a totally new sonic pallet… and now with the addition of the extra pickup and alternative tunings the possibilities seem endless.”

News: Seymour Duncan deliver 7 and 8 string Pegasus pickups

Are you a seven or eight-stringer? Do you play progressive styles that require clarity within complex chords and clear articulation for blistering arpeggios? Then you should check out the Pegasus. It's an Alnico V-based bridge pickup designed with prog metal in mind. Many seven string players have been saying that they need a pickup that isn't excessively high-gain given the amount of gain available in modern amps, and the Pegasus provides the perfect balance with a more moderate output that lets you push it to the edge and still retain warmth and clarity.

Sergey Golovin: Lepsky S8 SGM Review - OK people time to sharpen up on your Russian

The Guitar in Action with

Sergey Golvin was born in 1988 in Kiselevsk, a small Siberian town in Russia and has been mastering the guitar since he was a small boy. Growing up he was influenced by the likes of Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai and Guthrie Govan so decided to switch from his classically trained playing to the electric guitar.

After graduating from Music College Sergey set up his YouTube channel and was soon to become one of the most recognised Russian guitar players with his incredible array of unique licks and techniques. He won many local guitar competitions and went on to win the international competition 'Leader-Guitarist' in 2009 with the final taking place in his native Russia.

Ignazio Di Salvo, Vanny Tonon: Italian guitar brigade at the Musikmesse

Great to catch up with the talented Ignazio Di Salvo and for the first time, Vanny Tonon. Like most players there on a visit to see catch up with web guitar friends and in this case we're next to the Fibenare guitars stand where the audience is gathered to watch Tom Quayle and friends, Tom jamming on his new custom guitar.

Alex Hutchings, Magnus Olsson: discuss the 8 string Waghorn at the Musikmesse

I caught up with Alex Hutchings and Magnus Olsson on the Thursday of the Musikmesse. Alex was keen to show us his amazing 8 string guitar made by local Bristol based luthier. The luthier has done an amazing job on this guitar since the original prototype. The action is incredibly low, but this is because Alex plays the guitar with a very light touch. Magnus has helped Alex with some selection advice on the pickups for the instrument, being a noted aficionado of Di Marzio pickups and their configuration. He has a custom set of strings from Rotosound, designed so he gets a better sight of the top strings.

Andy Wood: Shades of Gray at the Raleigh Music Academy

Andy Wood plays Shades of Gray at the Raleigh Music Academy
On April 6th, 2013 Andy Wood held a performance clinic at the Raleigh Music Academy. This song, Shades of Gray, is from his solo album, A Disconcerting Amalgam. Andy played a Classic Antique Suhr which sounded great. He also used his Axe FX II direct and through two 2x12 Port City cabs. The band was Lindsey Tims on bass, Paul Warren on guitar and Andy Campbell on drums.

We apologize for the audio quality, but this was the camera mic so sometimes it was too much for it. For the most part, it captured it reasonably well.

Per Nilsson: jamming at the Musikmesse 2013

There are lot of players here to see Ola Englund and his band play on the Agora stage, the main stage in the centre of the Musikmesse. It's a great time to catch up with all the players you meet up with on line but  away from the virtual world. I caught with the amazing Per Nilsson, who was jamming with friends. I love Per Nilsson's super fluid technique and you can see why he was picked up by Ibanez for and exclusive endorsement.

Per Nilsson is one of the guitarists and founding members of the Swedish melodic death metal band Scar Symmetry. He is also the guitarist for the Swedish progressive rock group Kaipa and joined the American melodic death metal band The Absence as a permanent member in January 2013, having earlier produced their 2007 album Riders of the Plague. That same month, Guitar Messenger released a guitar instructional DVD with Per called Scar Guitar. Currently he is endorsed by and exclusively uses Ibanez guitars.[1] He plays seven-string and eight-string guitars primarily, but uses an Ibanez JEM 6 string in the studio for most of the lead guitar parts.
