It's been a while since I posted a video, so here's some bits and snippets from my recent clinic in Witten. Not the worst performance considering my 6 hour train ride and flu ;) This is also the first video footage of my beautiful Ibanez Guitars RG8420.

Zirque Bois d’Arc: Things I Should’ve Done Better - guitar led exploration of thriving in a dystopian universe

Zirque Bois d’Arc is the alter-ego of longtime Austin, TX sideman (and occasional frontman) Eric Roach. From the 90s bluegrassy stylings of The Fencesitters to current rock and progressive stalwarts Lick Lick and Baby Got Bacteria, Eric has been a contributing member of over 100 live acts since attending high school in Austin in the 1980s.

In November 2015 the first two Zirque Bois d’Arc records are being released as CDs and digitally. Things I Should’ve Done Better is a guitar driven instrumental album in the style of Jeff Beck with a modern Texas Flare.

Eric Roach is a musical journeyman with 3 decades experience playing a variety of instruments and genres on Austin stages. Starting with his high school bands Halsey Taylor and The Larrys (who recorded the 1985 7″ Twisting By The Fridge at Earth and Sky Studio and opened for The Big Boys, Glass Eye and many other seminal Austin acts) through today he has played in dozens of live musical acts, notably The Wampus Cats (with Amy Tiven and George Brainard), The Fencesitters (aka The Fencecutters – 4 self-produced albums), Alfalfa Male, The Stupor Friends, The Passed Out Flyers, Cave Bees, Pinkie Sworn, Chablis, Lick Lick (3 albums on Australian Cattle Dog Records and one awesome tour of Japan), and Baby Got Bacteria (early 2016 release Boo scheduled).

Things I Should’ve Done Better is a guitar led exploration of thriving in a dystopian universe. Written in a two day flurry on Venice Beach, and recorded over the next year, the CD features performances from Sam Arnold, David Hobizal, Pat Kennedy, Chuck Fisher, Matt Kelly and Peter Stopschinski as well as horn arrangements by Sam Arnold and string arrangements by Grammy Award winner Peter Stopschinski.

‎Øyvind Owane Pedersen: Owane remixes Justin Bieber - What Do You Mean in his classy fusion style

First of all, I should probably mention myself that this remix is inspired by Dirty Loops work! I've been wanting to do this ever since I heard the song for the first time. Needed a break from my own music, so it felt fresh doing something completely different. Had a lot of fun making this and I hope you will enjoy :D I do of course not own the vocals of this clip, I just made everything else.

Would like to thank my friend Luke Martin for mastering the song!

Eric Gales: Chaka Khan "Butterflies, Zebras, Moonbeams, Fairytales" great hidden gem!!

Chaka Khan is one of r&b’s greatest treasures, no matter the time, place or galaxy. Whether you heart Chaka for her Rufus years as the innovative “Queen of Funk” fronting some of the greatest players on the planet, or her years as a solo artist that saw her move over 70 million records worldwide, earning seven gold singles, seven gold albums, three platinum albums, and 10 Grammy Awards with 22 nominations, Chaka Khan has already gone down as one of the greatest entertainers of all time.

And now the Chaka has been nominated for a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, having influenced and worked with rock royalty since stepping onto the scene with Rufus’ “Tell Me Something Good,” which was written by Stevie Wonder. This certified Gold and Grammy award winning recording is in essence a “Riff Rock” anthem using the ‘wawa’ pedal on the clavinet and was among the earliest hits to use the talk box on the guitar. “Tell Me Something Good” marked just the first bullet-point on her titanic resume of collaborative efforts. The list of icons to collaborate with Khan goes on to include Prince, who wrote “I Feel For You” and whom she recorded an entire album with, Steve Winwood who recruited her for soaring vocals on “Higher Love”, Yeskeyboardist Rick Wakeman’s album 1984 and even Robert Palmer whose hit song “Addicted To Love” was originally slated as a Chaka duet. With all that repertoire under her belt, it’s no wonder Khan was ranked #17 on VH1’s original list of the 100 Greatest Women of Rock & Roll.

In case you still have doubts to Khan’s rock roots, we’ve unearthed the deciding link; a never-before-heard cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing” recorded on both coasts (partly in LA, partly in a secret Brooklyn studio lair) featuring the ridiculously magical Memphis up-side-down magician Eric Gales on guitar and produced by life long partner-in-funk, Ira Shickman,.

And so, to the voting masses who question whether she’s, you know, “rock enough,” the answer is unequivocally, yes. Press play to find out just why and then hit the link below to cast your own ballot.
