Metal Charge posted this, Magnus Karlsson joins Primal Fear!

We’ve decided to continue with one of the most exciting and respected guitar player in the business - Magnus Karlsson from Sweden. Magnus is known from his excellent work as a guitarist, songwriter and producer for Allen/Lande, Magnum’s Bob Catley, Starbreaker and many more. We’re looking forward to hit the road again with a special Best Of setlist and Magnus will be an additional attraction for the shows.

Singer Ralf Scheepers comments: “After working together with Magnus on several songs for our previous albums „Seven Seals“ and “New Religion”, it’s more than a pleasure to have him in the band now. In my ears he is one of the most talented guitarists on this planet and he is also an excellent composer. I absolutely look forward to rock the stages of this world with him!”

Magnus Karlsson added: “I’ve been a big fan of Primal Fear since I first heard them. I love their straight forward metal in combination with beautiful melodies and a world class musicianship. That’s why I’m both honoured and excited to join Primal Fear on their mission to show the world that Metal is forever!”

It looks like we’re planning to get back into the recording studio after the summer festival season to work on a new album!

Magnus Karlsson is the one man army of top quality melodic hard rock!!! He is on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/magnusguitarplayer

Plus Frontiers Records will release and album from the brand new Mark Boals/Magnus Karlsson collaboration, THE CODEX, on November 9, 2007. THE CODEX marks the return to recording — after a three-year hiatus — for Mark Boals was named Best Singer in 1999 by the readers of Japan's Burrn! magazine.

"I am feeling great, better than ever!" says Boals about his comeback. "I was interested in working with Magnus after hearing his work, I love his guitar playing, and of course his songwriting is superb! There are great melodies and I really enjoyed singing on this one. It's really a catchy album, and I have been listening to it a lot, which I rarely do with my work."

Boals' partner in crime on THE CODEX is Magnus Karlsson, a super-talented and busy guy who is also the mastermind behind STARBREAKER and the recent very successful ALLEN/LANDE collaboration. "It's really an honour to work with such a fantastic singer," states Karlsson. "It's very easy to write for Mark because he has this enormous vocal range. I have never heard anything like it! He sings some unbelievably high notes and he does it so beautiful. Musically I wanted to stretch the borders a little more than usual, with almost a power metal style in some songs and very soft parts in others. I use a lot of orchestral arrangement to make it bigger but at the same time I try to leave space for the heaviness in the guitars, drums and bass. I also wanted this to be an album with focus on the vocals and melody as I always do but I added a lot of guitar shredding as well." Completing the line-up are Linus Abrahamson on bass and Daniel Flores (MIND'S EYE) on drums.

"The Codex" is truly a creative and diverse album which shows a very different side of Karlsson songwriting and gives Boals the chance to showcase some of his most aggressive and heaviest vocals ever. It is probably the heaviest CD where the two artists have ever been involved with, still keeping intact the trademarks of a monster melodic metal album.

Plus details of the highly anticipated and much talked about Planet Alliance project are finally available.

The highly respected producer Anders “Theo” Theander was asked to put together an “All star” project and with great enthusiasm and a lot of work Planet Alliance was born.

Mike Andersson (Cloudscape) and Magnus Karlsson (Last Tribe, Starbreaker, Allen/Lande Project) started to compose songs for Planet Alliance in early 2005. Bob Daisley (Gary Moore, ex-Ozzy Osbourne) and Janne Stark (Locomotive Breath, Overdrive) were also invited to contribute with songs in order to complete the setlist. Anders Johansson (Hammerfall, ex-Yngwie J. Malmsteen) and Jaime Salazar (Last Tribe, Allen/Lande Project, ex-Flower Kings) was asked to share the drum responsibilities and shortly thereafter also Magnus Rosén (Hammerfall) and Bob Daisley joined to share the bass responsibilities.

There are another 3 fantastic guitarists that perform on the album. Each guitarist has their own style and puts their own personal flavour which has made a very exciting vibe to the album and all guitarists are very different from one another style wise. Except for Magnus Karlsson on guitar there are another 3 fantastic guitarists that perform on the album. The guitarists are Carl-Johan Grimmark (Narnia, Rob Rock), Mattias "IA" Eklundh (Freak Kitchen), Janne Stark and of course Karlsson.

The musical direction is melodic hard rock/metal with strong hook lines. This is a high class performance and collection of songs in order to please every whole-hearted metal/hard rock fan that has sense for great melodies. The album was produced, recorded and mixed by Anders “Theo” Theander at the famous Roastinghouse Studio AB in Malmoe, Sweden.

Background:
Magnus Karlsson was born in south of Sweden in 1973. He began playing the guitar at age 10. He studied classical guitar in school, but his band was into "The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal".

In 1989, Magnus decided to devote the most of his time to become a better guitar player and songwriter. His main influences were Steve Morse, Steve Vai and Allan Holdsworth. He played in different Metal and Fusion bands and developed a style that mixed Metal with Folk music. He joined a Celtic Folk group in 1991 called HOT PEBBLE and toured in Scandinavia for two years as a guitarist and a banjo player.

In 1996, he started an education at Malmö College Of Music and was awarded a master degree in "music education", 2000. During the time in college, Magnus started to write songs in the Metal tradition again and also co-founded the Irish trad band GREENHOUSE together with Lars Nilsson and Andreas Ralsgård. GREENHOUSE which still perform regularly is about to release their first album called “Glass of Beer”.

He joined MIDNIGHT SUN on the "Nemesis" album released in Europe in late 1999 by Point Music. Magnus got a lot of attention in the media due to his incredible skills and tasteful approach, including important magazines like YOUNG GUITAR, BURRN! ect. After “Nemesis” Magnus also played on the next MIDNIGHT SUN release “Metalmachine”. Magnus decided it was time to move on and start writing songs for his own new band LAST TRIBE.

The final result is "The Ritual", the LAST TRIBE debut album that can be described as Melodic Metal with a touch of Progressive elements. The debut album was released on Frontiers/Now & Then on June the 25th 2001. After a critically successful debut album "The Ritual" Magnus and Last Tribe released the albums “Witch dance” (2002) and “Uncrowned” (2003) that both received tremendous reviews from all over the world.

In 2004 Magnus did the song writing and the guitar work for the album ALLEN/LANDE that features Jorn Lande (Masterplan) and Russel Allen (Symphony X). ALLEN/LANDE will be released in September 2005. In the same year he also started to write music for a project with Tony harnell (TNT), John Macaluso (Ark, Yngwie Malmsteen) and Fabrizio Grossi (Steve Vai) that would later on become the band… STARBREAKER!

Influences include: Steve Vai, Allan Holdsworth, Judas Priest, Johny Cash, Frank Zappa. Bothy band, Solas, Dio, Black Sabbath, Queensryche, Russel Allen, Jorn Lande, Tony Harnell. Lilly Allen, Coldplay, Dimmu Borgir, Keith Jarret.
