Simon Gardner: Reflections on a Winter Sky

I commenced writing "Reflections on a Winter Sky" in the Winter of 2019 during the first lockdown. After putting it on the back burner for a while I decided to go back and finish it off. This was easier said than done as the simplest melodies prove to be the most difficult….so much riding on each and every note and the space between them! Even though the outro had more notes and less space ;-) , I still took the same approach and worked hard to compose a solo that had strong and colourful melodic interest yet delivered with searing tone and passion! Featuring Darren Muller(drums), Chris Gilbert(bass), Sean Foran(Rhodes and organ), Michael Flanders(pedal steel), this piece pays homage to a couple of my favourite guitarists and songwriters. I wondered what would happen if Jimmy Webb wrote an instrumental song about the soft loneliness of reflecting upon a winter sky and asked David Gilmour and Jeff Beck to play it?
