Jonathan Kreisberg: Quartet Playing "the Lamp Is Low"

An excerpt from a performance of the Jonathan Kreisberg Quartet at "THE BOP STOP" in Cleveland, OH on Nov 23, 2022. Featuring killers Martin Bejerano-Piano, Or Bareket-Bass, and Karl Henrik Ousback-Drums. I wish we had the whole track (Martin's solo was a heavy!), but very grateful for the fan capture of our take on the great Richie Bierach's reharm of "The Lamp is Low"! www.jonathankreisberg.com

Jonathan Kreisberg: The Guitar Hour interviews

Watch The Guitar Hour LIVE on Thursdays at 7:30pm UK time on youtube or at www.twitch.tv/tomquayle

The Guitar Hour crew (Tom Quayle, Dan Smith, David Beebee and Dave Brons) were lucky enough to interview the phenomenal jazz guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg. Here we present part one of that interview for you - part two is available here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUR0r...

Jonathan wanted to shoot this interview outside on this beautiful day in Oxford, UK - inevitably there is some wind and background noise. We're sure you'll agree that it's worth putting up with for the words of wisdom from this true master.

We really hope you enjoy this interview with one of the true geniuses of modern guitar playing. You can find out more information on Jonathan's music at www.jonathankreisberg.com

Guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg has been steadily building his name as one of the brightest young stars in Jazz. His style and approach has created a strong following of fans around the world as he toured and recorded extensively with his own groups as well artists such as Dr. Lonnie Smith, who says of Kreisberg, "He is a passionate musician with great vision, and he is constantly in fiery pursuit of innovation."
On WAVE UPON WAVE Jonathan, along with alto saxophone genius Will Vinson, the amazing Kevin Hays (on piano for half of the program) and the young rhythm section team of Rick Rosato and Colin Stranahan creates modern jazz that combines tradition, instrumental virtuosity, modern soundscapes and influences from every corner of the world (and beyond).
In the liner notes Jonathan describes his process of composing/improvising and the inspiration of the title: "Relentlessly breaking on the shore, and each bringing forth the codes of the past… but also from the depths comes something new."

Jonathan Kreisberg: One New CD available

Jonathan Kreisberg: One
Jonathan Kreisberg: One

While recognized for his band leading skills on his international tours and countless CD's (as well as side man work with Dr. Lonnie Smith, Joe Locke, and Ari Hoenig among others) One marks guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg's first recording made up of entirely solo guitar performances. The program boasts a daring range of material and introduces the world to his unique polyphonic approach. Although at times it's hard to believe, the entire recording is one man on one track. Modern jazz, a Brazilian mythical tale, folk, and improvised music for an imaginary science fiction soundtrack are all refracted through Kreisberg's prism to create a bold and complete tale.

Jonathan Kreisberg: Trioing

Jonathan Kreisberg with Johannes Weidenmueller & Ari Hoeniig: Trioing

Jonathan Kreisberg (guitar); Johannes Weidenmueller (bass); Ari Hoeniig (drums)

Nearly ten years since it's original release in 2002, the reissue of Trioing documents the meeting of three young jazz voices who would go on to become major influences in their field. Jonathan Kreisberg was the leader on a session featuring drum phenomena Ari Hoenig (who became a respected leader in his own right, with several discs featuring Kreisberg as well). Completing the trio was Johannes Weidenmueller, a bassist known for his beautiful tone and melodic sense, as well as his ability to make complex ideas feel organic and natural. Trioing stands the test of time as a "new classic" session. Capturing the three young master improvisers defining a new approach to standard tunes.

“Shadowless” is the exciting new disc from Guitarist / Composer Jonathan Kreisberg. It features Jonathan's touring band, members Will Vinson on Saxophone, Henry Hey on piano, Matt Penman on bass, and Mark Ferber on drums in several different combinations. Their respect for the tradition is deep, but the compositions stretch the possibilities of form and the sounds challenge the possibilities of the "acoustic" jazz group. The disc presents a group that has electrified audiences on 5 continents, taking it’s many listeners on rhythmically deep and lyrically compelling journey. As a guitarist, Jonathan Kreisberg has been steadily building his name as the one of the instruments brightest young stars. Jonathan Kreisberg: guitar player daily interview

Jonathan Kreisberg Interview:
AAJ: When you were 16 you were admitted to the New World School of the Arts in Miami. Can you talk about how this experience changed you both musically and personally?

JK: It was definitely a big change on both levels. There were some really talented people there who were already delving deep into the jazz tradition. I came along with plenty of creativity and chops, but basically got a major wakeup call in regards to the importance of knowing the jazz language. It was really good for me as a player. I had a great teacher named J.B. Dyas, who helped me structure my practicing and shifted my focus to learning tunes and absorbing the jazz language.
