Rik Emmett: signs with Mascot Label Group

NEW YORK, NY (July 28, 2016) - RES 9 Management along with Mascot Label Group is pleased to announce that Rik Emmett and his new band, RESolution9, have just delivered an album of 11 brand new rockers as part of a multi-album, worldwide deal. The album, entitled RES 9, is tentatively slated to be released through Mascot Label Group in November 2016.

The members of RESolution9 are from Rik's touring quartet: Dave Dunlop on guitar, Steve Skingley on bass, and Paul DeLong on drums, with Dave and Steve co-producing the project. Much of the album was recorded and mixed at Mississauga's famed MetalWorks Studios, where Rik enjoyed a profoundly comfortable re-connectivity to his own roots. In fact, the other two founding members of Triumph (Gil Moore and Mike Levine, from the trio that received 18 gold and 9 platinum awards in Canada and the U.S. in the 70's & 80's) reunite with Rik as special guests on "The Grand Parade", a song that conjures 1979's "Suitcase Blues".

Additionally, legendary guitarist Alex Lifeson of Rush performs on two stellar tracks, with James LaBrie of Dream Theater contributing extraordinary guest vocals on two cuts as well.

Canadian Rock and Juno Hall of Famer Rik Emmett says, "I'm really happy and grateful that Mascot Label Group gave our band complete freedom, and trusted us to do our best. Some might see this as a comeback record, but I’m really proud of the vitality the band generated. For me, it's always about the songwriting - how the melodies and sonic landscapes capture the storytelling."

A more detailed press release will be issued by Mascot Label Group once the album secures its formal release date. Visit www.rikemmett.com and www.mascotlabelgroup.com for more information.

Rik Emmett: Sex Bunnies On Venus 1987

No, the song is not called Sex Bunnies on Venus. This is an early arrangement of a fingerstyle jazz instrumental which would surface years later on Rik's solo album,It is most likely the first time he played this live and had not yet named it. I can't recall the name of what this would later transform into (something like The Seventh Circle). If you know the name of the song please leave a comment.

Rik Emmett,Sil Simone: Pizza duet

Rik and Sil Simone in 1991 playing the instrumental "Pizza" on Rik's first solo tour. This song has different parts of Rik's fingerstyle pieces and other ideas thrown together to make up this arrangement. They only played this song live on this tour and there are few recordings of it. This is a compilation of audio and video from two different shows combined as the video quality was not good enough on it's own. I saw them perform this live a number of times and I think this still holds up as one of the best guitar duets I've seen or heard, although I may be biased being a life long Emmett fan...
Rik Emmett and Sil Simone 1991, playing "Pizza". Great, rare guitar duet!

Rik Emmett,Steve Morse: Up In The Air - Toronto 1987

No, this is not the clip from the Much Music studios, which you may have seen on YouTube. This is a live performace from Night Of A Thousand Guitars at the Diamond Club in Toronto. In 1987. Rik put this event together as a benefit for the Guitar Society of Toronto. This is the acoustic duet performed originally by Steve Howe and Steve Morse on the Dixie Dregs album Industry Standard. Here Rik plays Steve Howe's part in this once only live concert performance of this song.
