Richie Kotzen: three night stand set for the Iridium!!!

East Coast Shows and Iridium Special Event!

Yo Peeps…

I think we have something very cool brewing here…

I just booked 3 nights in NYC at Iridium (The legendary club of Les Paul).

April 20th, 21st, and 22nd with a Long Island warm up show on the 17th at New York Ollies

as well as a show in Baltimore @’Sound Stage’ on April 18th.

I know this is a lot of New York/North East for Kotzen but we are planing on doing something very cool.

This idea was inspired by my buddy Eddie Trunk a few years back.

The plan is to feature a different cd performed front to back each night.

Night one will be a performance of the original Mother Head’s Family Reunion cd.

This will be a 90 minute show starting with the performance of the cd as well as other material from previous releases.

Night 2 will be a 2 set night. The first set will be a performance of ‘IntoThe Black’ from front to back.

Set 2 will be considered a separate show by the club and feature material from previous cd’s not including any of the songs from the 3 featured cd’s.

Night 3 will be a single 90 minute set starting with a performance of the latest cd ’24 Hours’ from front to back as well as other material not included in the

previous performances. Hopefully this all makes sense…. I am looking forward to bringing to life some of these songs that have yet to be performed live.

Below you will find the link to Iridium’s April calendar.

Please scroll down on the Iridium page to find my show dates.

Jacqueline Mannering: practices to become the worlds Fastest Female Guitarist

(This is purely about speed!) At the moment, I'm practicing for a Guinness World Record "Fastest Female Guitarist", here's a preview of what I have to do for the title. There is no current record, but there is a minimum speed I have to play the song at. Wish me luck!

Josephine Soegijanty-Draven: Axe Gang Iraon Maiden

Josephine Soegijanty-Draven is an Indonesian musician and film score composer. She is currently a cast member of the Blue Man Group. She was also a guitarist for the American all-female heavy metal band Phantom Blue and the tribute band The Iron Maidens.
Born in Java, Indonesia, Jojo Draven started her music career as a keyboardist for several rock bands in the country. Tired of playing keyboard as a result of her classical piano training, she learned to play guitar from the best local guitarist. Shortly afterward, she joined an all-female rock band and found some success before relocating to the U.S., where she studied at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA. There, she became the protege of Alex Skolnick, guitarist of the heavy metal band Testament.
She has played/recorded with various musicians, and appeared on the homage recording for guitarist Jason Becker alongside Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert and Steve Morse.
In 1996, Draven joined the all-female band Phantom Blue as their main guitarist under the name Josephine. She remained with the band until their demise in late-2001. On June of that same year, she and drummer Linda McDonald joined vocalist Jenny Warren, bassist Melanie Sisneros (formerly of Raven Mad and New Eden) and guitarist Sara Marsh (formerly of Bandit) to form the tribute band The Iron Maidens ("World's Only Female Tribute to Iron Maiden"). Her stage name in the Maidens was "Adrienne Smith," a female version of Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith. Draven's tenure in both Phantom Blue and the Maidens earned her three Rock City Awards for Best Female Guitarist.
Shortly after the release of the band's self-titled debut album in 2005, Draven left the Maidens to pursue a career in composing film scores - many of which have been produced and/or directed by her husband, Danny Draven.
Starting October 2011, Draven will play guitar in the Blue Man Group in Las Vegas, Nevada.
But Jojo never mention AXE GANG, her group when she was in Surabaya, Indonesia around 1990s. This Song Called "Heavy Metal" compossed by Pardi Arthin & Andre Tidi.

So, Please Enjoy AXE GANG: Heavy Metal ... Indonesian Rock Songs with Jojo Draven in Guitar !

Mika Tyyskä: Mr. Fastfinger announces new CD!

A clip from a workshop at Kuula-Opisto, Vaasa, Finland. At this point I was demoing some improvisation ideas.
The song is from "In Motion" album. Will be released March / 2012. Album version features my friend, the great Thomas Blug sharing the lead spots. From 1:30 on, the leads are all improvised. around 3:00 the real action starts. I feel I have taken a step forward with my improvisation skills. Seems that practice actually helps ;)

"in Motion" new Mr. Fastfinger album will be released in March. CD comes with a special Fretboard game and access to a bunch of Jamtracks and other material. Pre-order yours here:
Special thanks to Eero for organizing everything and inviting Mr. Fastfinger to Vaasa. It was a pleasure. Huge thanks and deep bows to Kuula-Opisto and O'Malleys for having us!

The amp sounded incredibly good in the Kuula-institute hall. Went with Powersoak to 5 watts. No overdrive pedals or such, it's the amp overdrive. But after the workshop I did a private demo for people interested in the amp. The18 watts. aaaah the sustain, the sussssstaaiiiin!
The sounds is directly from the video camera, the Canon HFM41. A bit compressed and messy I'm afraid.
G-system you won't see, but i had it there for controlling the amp as well as providing some delay for the leads. And slight compression and chorus for the clean rhythm parts.

Don Alder: Shred This Way interview

Hey Don! First off all thanks for being a sport and agreeing for the interview. Now lets start off with the questions. To begin with tell us about your experience winning the Guitar Idol 3?

Winning idol was quite the experience and I feel very humbled by the win. The players were all amazing. A few days earlier I had a concert and my guitar got damaged to the point where I had to use duct tape to hold the top down on the guitar. That messed with my confidence big time. So when I hit the stage I just had them crank the volume at the front end and I just played my acoustic with a rocker attitude and somehow got top honors. The music I chose to play was just in std tuning and shredding with right hand so to speaker (fast fingerpicking) I thought of doing tapping stuff but electric players can do that with much more ease and sophistication so I just played a fast song in the good old key of E and tried to cover everything possible in that key. more

News: Snarky Puppy to attend ICMP

The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, one of the world’s leading schools of modern music, is delighted to announce that it has secured the first-ever UK visit of one of the most respected names in music, ground-breaking US collective ‘Snarky Puppy’. The Institute-sponsored short tour will include an exclusive three-day educational residency, during which ‘Snarky’ will be delivering educational workshops and masterclasses, and a live gig at London venue Cargo.
With the release of their last two live CD/DVDs, Snarky Puppy has gone from an underground secret to being one of the most internationally respected names in instrumental music. The core of the group, which remains consistent, features Grammy Award winners Robert “Sput” Searight on drums (God’s Property, Snoop Dogg) and Shaun Martin on keys (Kirk Franklin, Erykah Badu).
Led by award-winning bassist/composer Michael League, also a visiting faculty member of the Institute, Snarky Puppy delivers raw funk and sensitive dynamics, relentless pocket and lyrical melodicism, lush harmony and soulful simplicity, and most importantly a delicate mixture of composition and improvisation. The three-time Dallas Observer Music Award winning group (‘Best Jazz Act’ 2008, 2009, 2010) fuses a deep knowledge and respect for musical tradition with sonic and conceptual innovation in a way that is able to reach the most critical or most carefree audience.
The exclusive three-day educational residency is being held between Monday 2nd and Wednesday 4th April, and will include masterclasses that will be conducted at the Institute in which ‘Snarky’ will explore concepts such as rhythm/groove, improvisation and composition/arranging. If you are interested in attending one of these masterclasses please visit the Institute’s events page at or call 020 7328 0222 in order to purchase your masterclass ticket (£15 per person/per day).
