Antonello Catanese: ViruTrio: Alien Tree new CD

Lorenzo Fonda (drums and percussion); Romano Baldassi (bass); Antonello Catanese (guitar)

This is the second album for the ViruTrio. While maintaining the direction of the first CD they are more effective. The soul of rock merges with Latin rhythms and the work of the three musicians make good fusion of "Rock Blues in crossover Latin Funk" defined by themselves. Lorenzo Fonda on the drums and percussion, Romano Baldassi on the bass and Antonello Catanese on the guitar, author of most of the themes, they have an harmony that is reflected in their tracks that are particularly affect by composition and arrangement.

Besides the excellent work by the rhythm section of Lorenzo and Romano resulting in very interesting solos in Big Cake and Cubika a particular note goes to the guitarist, Antonello, which, compared to the first CD, in which especially the guitar sound does not fully exploited his expressiveness and touch, this CD showcases an excellent sound, very particularly that gives the "fullness" to the trio. Waitin 'for the collapse and the blues Fat dogs are illustrative of the sound of this trio. Chrysalis and Seed breaking the trend of the CD by tapping a tours in the ethnic world with the first and in th second with the rarefied image. Well, surely a good job that we hope will continue in this direction by consolidating a trio since its debut a few years ago, and has original music, which is not always obvious, interesting. Advice that we woud give to the group: play live as possible !

News Lone Planet guitar blog

I’m a 30 year old guy from Canberra, Australia. I’ve been playing guitar for over 18 years.

I have played in a few bands over years, in both guitar player and singing roles. I’m currently working on a project at the moment writing music that could probably be described as progressive punk.

I also enjoy teaching guitar to beginners looking to find their own sound.

I enjoy writing, and reviewing music gear combines two loves. You can also find my reviews over at Jemsite. My username over there is “LonePhantom”.

Lots of gear reviews and guitar information which will appeal to all who have that itchy GAS syndrome!

Jon Finn: Bull in a China Shop new CD

An excellent new release from Berklee guitar master Jon Finn.

Bull in a China Shop CD (available now!)
This is the 3rd CD release from Jon Finn Group. This is by far their most ambitious and varied work. With special guests ranging from members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra all the way to a "moonlighting" high-school social studies teacher, this CD certainly has a long of sonic range. Mixed by Randy Roos and Mastered by Bob Ludwig, we also believe it is our best-sounding work too.

News: Flaxwood demo PG's Rebecca Dirks is On Location in Nashville, TN, where she visits the Flaxwood Guitars booth. In this segment, we get to check out two of their newest models--the 3S-T Haarii Special & DMZ-H Vasara. Plus, watch for the Leon Russell sighting during the video, too!

The Haarii Special was said to be designed to deliver super, muscular Strat tones while preserving the warmth and deep responsiveness that characterizes all Flaxwood guitars. The Seymour Duncan SP90 pickup in the neck gives the instrument full, jazz box-like tones, while the two Duncan SSL-6's create all the twang and bite you'd ever want. The guitar also features a super stable Schaller LP Tremolo bridge, 5-way switch and a uniquely wired blend knob that adds the bridge pickup in the neck position and the neck pickup in the bridge, or bridge/middle position, allowing for all three pickups to be used at once.

Fat power chords, screaming harmonics, singing sustain, and a commanding appearance - the Flaxwood Vasara (vasara = hammer) is a true rocker's dream. Features a Gotoh Tune-o-matic Bridge and pickups by DiMarzio. Ideal for heavier rock and metal.

Alex Bodnar Plays the Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone Compressor Sustainer

About Alex Bodnar:
Alex Bodnar was born in the Ukraine in 1983 and spent the first five and a half years of his life there. His father, a fine artist moved his family to Italy for six months prior to immigrating to the United States and settling in New York in 1989.

Alex got his first acoustic guitar at ten years old and practiced for hours every day. By age fourteen, he had already developed amazing technique and was able to play ‘note-for- note’ the music of Malmsteen, Vai, Satriani, Hendrix, Van Halen and many others. At fifteen, he had the good fortune of meeting the renowned music producer, engineer, and mixer, Ron Saint Germain. Ron immediately recognized Alex’s ability and encouraged him to begin writing his own music. This began an enduring mentorship and was a turning point in Alex’s musical development. Shortly after this meeting Ron invited Alex to sit in with him in the studio while he mixed the first album for the unknown band, Creed. This was another major inspiration for Alex to make music professionally.

After graduating from high school Alex enrolled in the Five Towns Music College in Long Island, New York to study guitar composition and music theory. After a year and a half in school Alex got an offer to tour with a working band. He took the job and has been a working professional musician ever since.

Alex celebrated 21st birthday in Japan while playing lead guitar for Utada Hikaru (Japan’s number one selling female artist of all time!). While playing for Utada, the PRS Guitar Company endorsed Alex and gave him his own custom PRS guitar, which has become a huge part of Alex’s guitar sound.

In 2006 Alex became musical director and guitar player for a promo tour with RBD (Grammy nominated group).

In 2007 (only eight years after hanging with Saint while he mixed CREED) Alex joined forces with Scott Stapp for his second solo effort, and with whom he wrote numerous songs, played lead guitar and toured with for two and a half years.

In 2008 Alex as part of the Scott Stapp Band, performed for the troops during their AFE tour (Armed Forces Entertainment) in over twelve countries including, Africa, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Kuwait, Bahrain.

Alex has performed on numerous T.V. programs including Cartoon Network, the Megan Mullally Show, Yahoo Sessions, Music Choice, AOL Sessions, Asaki Television, Fuji TV, and CD USA. Versatile in all types and genres of music, Alex has also written songs for other artists and bands including J.U.S Evolution, Michael Shivers, Streetkind, Vito, Jeanine Truly and many others.

Paul Gilbert: The “Fuzz Universe” Interview

Matt Warnock:
You’ve said that your experiences on the G3 tour back in 2007 helped inspire to you write and record “Fuzz Universe.” Was it playing with those guys every night that inspired you, or playing in an instrumental setting for the tour, or both?

Buy "Fuzz Universe" From
Paul Gilbert: I was truly surprised by the audiences at G3. Every night we’d go onstage in a different city and there would be more guitar fans than I ever imagined possible. And they loved it when we played lots of solos. It really opened my eyes to the culture of guitar.

I grew up listening to music where guitar always shared the spotlight with the vocalist, the song, and band. G3 showed me that that mixture doesn’t have to be exact. You can focus on the guitar and the world doesn’t come to an end. In fact, it can be even more exciting for those of us who love the guitar.

Of course, having nightly jam sessions with Joe Satriani and John Petrucci was very inspiring as well. I loved every second of that tour.
