On WAVE UPON WAVE Jonathan, along with alto saxophone genius Will Vinson, the amazing Kevin Hays (on piano for half of the program) and the young rhythm section team of Rick Rosato and Colin Stranahan creates modern jazz that combines tradition, instrumental virtuosity, modern soundscapes and influences from every corner of the world (and beyond).
In the liner notes Jonathan describes his process of composing/improvising and the inspiration of the title: "Relentlessly breaking on the shore, and each bringing forth the codes of the past… but also from the depths comes something new."

Luca Mantovanelli: 20 II-V-I Fusion Licks

20 II-V-I Fusion Licks

New JTC artist Luca Mantovanelli plays a MultiAmp in his first JTC pack and he has definitely hit the ground running! This pack is going to show you exactly how to navigate the most essential of chord progressions (the II-V-I) like an absolute pro! Why is the II-V-I an essential progression? Firstly it's the most widely used progression in Jazz, and appears in Pop and Rock tunes the world over, but it also contains the three most common chord types, a Maj7 chord, a Min7 chord and a dominant chord and learning to solo over these chord types might just be the most important lesson you can learn.

Inside this pack Luca executes 20 melodic fusion licks that perfectly outline the underlying harmony. We're talking Dorian licks, Superlocrian scales, Dominant7b9 arpeggios, Diminished arpeggios, tritone scales, use of the harmonic minor scale, chromatic lines, pentatonics, hybrid picking, legato, string skipping, sweep picking, fast phrases, slow phrases and a lick inspired by Tom Quayle. You really couldn't cram any more value into this pack if you tried!

All of this is combined in a very musical fashion with impeccable time-feel and groove. If any of the above terms scare you, then this pack may just be the perfect introduction to not just the subjects but how to apply them to your own playing and licks. The icing on the cake here are the two very jammable backing tracks with one in a straight feel and the other in a swing feel.

And at only £9.99 what more can you ask for?

As ever, we have accurately transcribed every note and included the TAB/notation in the download, full backing tracks, audio solos and lick notes.

News: Tune your guitar lightning fast with the Polytune

The Evolution of a Revolution!

The original PolyTune took the world of music by storm when it was released back in 2010. No longer where musicians confined to the tedious task of picking one string at a time before tuning up, leaving more time for what we love to do the most, rockin’ out!

With PolyTune 2 and its smaller siblings PolyTune 2 Mini and PolyTune 2 Noir, we’ve taken this amazing tuning technology to the next level by adding an insanely fast and precise strobe tuner plus a new retina-scorching bright display that ensures lightning fast tune-ups no matter the situation. Because why should tuning be a chore, when it can be as easy as Strum – Tune – Rock!

Your friend in music,

Nili Brosh: the band announces three shows on the west coast

In commemoration of A Matter of Perception having recently come out, I'm happy to announce that I've put together a new band to play my material live! This brand new Nili Brosh Band lineup is a four-piece comprised of some of my best friends, who also happen to be very gifted musicians: Alon Mei-Tal on guitar, Jon Reshard on bass, and Punky Balfour on drums. Oh yeah…and I guess I'll be playing some guitar too!

We are super excited to start playing shows together, and we'll begin in the southern California area with three dates to end 2014:

  • December 10th - The Baked Potato, Los Angeles, CA: A Matter of Perception CD release party. We'll be doing two sets, and a very special guest or two may come and sit in! Click for tickets.
  • December 11th - M15, Corona, CA: I'm extremely honored to say that we'll be opening for one of my biggest guitar heroes' band - Greg Howe's Maragold. Click for tickets.
  • December 13th - Ramona Mainstage, Ramona, CA: opening for Maragold once again. Click for tickets.

Putting this band together to play the new material live for the first time is quite a special occasion for me. Having concentrated solely on my work with Tony MacAlpine, The Iron Maidens, and the making of this record for the past several years, I literally haven't played my own material live since 2010 - the last time was at the Through The Looking Glass CD release party! Looking back, it's pretty hard to believe…but there it is. Seeing as it's been so long, I must say I am extremely excited to play my music live again - especially since it means I get to share it with these three fantastic musicians. So if you're in the SoCal area, I sincerely hope to see you at one of these shows. Please come and say hello!

In other news, I will be closing December with a trip to the EMGtv studios in Santa Rosa, CA. It's been about six months since I was there recording the live performances of "Silence of Saturday" and "A Matter of Perception", and now I'll be back to perform a few more original songs. I won't reveal which yet, but I'm feeling fairly confident that you will all be pleased with the selections. :)

Thank you for your continued support, and I hope to see you soon!

Doug Aldrich, Neal Schon: Revolution Saints to release eponymous debut album

REVOLUTION SAINTS is the new hard rock / melodic rock eponymous debut album from Doug Aldrich (ex-Whitesnake), Jack Blades (Night Ranger) and Deen Castronovo (Journey). The new album will be released on CD, Deluxe Edition, Digital Download and 180 gram vinyl by Frontiers Records in Europe on February 20, in the UK on February 23, and in the USA on February 24.

Superbly handling drums and lead vocals is Deen Castronovo. Already renowned for his drum talents and backing vocals in Journey, Bad English and more, Deen's excellent vocal talents are in the spotlight on the album. On bass, and co-lead vocals on a few tracks, Jack Blades is well known for his melodic, yet hard rocking approach to songwriting and playing via multiple classic albums by his main band Night Ranger, as well as with the Damn Yankees and the Shaw/Blades releases.

On guitar, Doug Aldrich was excited to lend his fiery blues guitar attack to such a unique and melodic band. Doug, who just left Whitesnake after a fruitful 12 year run (including co-writing 2010s critically acclaimed "Forevermore" release) and also of Burning Rain and formerly of DIO, has a deep pedigree and is one of today’s most respected guitarists.

The debut album brings back the classic melodic rock style to where it should be: inspiring, uplifting vocals, soaring melodies and musicianship to die for, and features special guests including Alessandro Del Vecchio, and Journey’s Neal Schon and Arnel Pineda.

Al Joseph: I Just Wish - inspirational rock ballad

Get the JTC Guitar Hero Ballads album or the backings and tab here:

'Every Guitar Hero Needs a Ballad'.

That is what our co-founder Jan Cyrka said when we decided to create our first ever JTC original full length album. Vai, Satriani, you name them...they have one!

So we spoke to a number of the artists on our glittering roster and asked them to compose their ultimate ballad. The result is a powerful album that is full of pure emotion and drive and takes you on a journey through the minds of 11 incredibly talented guitar players and composers.

Starting with Andy James' 'The Wind That Shakes The Heart' (which was written by Jan Cyrka and James Graydon) the emotion sucks you in from the first note, just as you would expect from a brilliant ballad track. The scene is then set and from there, all 11 JTC artists continue the same trend with their own individual take on the ultimate ballad.

Any album that has brand new original tracks from the likes of Guthrie Govan, Alex Hutchings, Marco Sfogli, Jack Thammarat and more should be in any guitar players collection, there is no questioning that. However, we have gone the extra mile and provided you with 3 options!

1 - Just the album

2 - Just the backings, complete with full transcriptions and 5 bonus videos (Andy James, Jack Thammarat, Marco Sfogli, Feodor Dosumov and Al Joseph)

3 - The Deluxe edition, which contains all of the above!

4 - Physical CD

So, are you ready for over 50 minutes of ultimate ballads?

My new album Transcendence is out now! :) Do consider getting it at:

If by any chance you happen to follow me on Facebook and the like, you're likely to have seen I am now a Caparison Guitars artist. :) This is their Angelus 7 M3B model, which is also available in black. Full specs here:

I received this instrument the day before leaving to NYC and took it with me, so it got a proper travel workout to test its stability, and it passed the test with flying colours. This is a phenomenal instrument as per Caparison's usual standard, but also different enough from the more common offerings in looks and feel to have its own space in the market without being "yet another" 7.

The song I'm playing here is called Ryujin, off my second album Transcendence. All the guitar parts are recorded with the Angelus 7 straight into the Kemper, using profiles of my very own Randall RD45, ... (more)
