Thomas Bressel: crazy two handed solo from new album

Michael Angelo Batio: I'm a big Randy Rhoads fan

"I'm a big Randy Rhoads fan" confirms Michael. "I got to meet him before he died; I met him backstage at a concert in Chicago, my hometown. I was asked to do Rhoadsfest I last year, and prior to that in 2007, I was asked to be in a Randy Rhoads movie that hasn't come out yet. I met the Rhoads family then in 2007; I really liked his mom and his sister. and Kelle I had met before. Last year it was so great, and this year it should be even better. I just love him as a guitarist. I really like what he did for rock guitar, and there's a history there; me meeting him and participating in the movie, and plus, I think one of the reasons how I got involved too was they saw me play in Los Angeles in Hollywood at M.I. with Uli Jon Roth in 2007. more

George Lynch: Metal Rules interview

A super interview and massive too... covering almost every aspect of George Lynch's career:
So far we have talked about Lynch Mob and your other projects but hardly a word about Dokken so I have to ask about what’s going on with Dokken re-union plans?

You know what, some people never change their spots. And what I got a feeling is happening is, Don has been making noises, and we've been having meetings, and we've been doing shows together with Lynch Mob and Souls of We, we did Loud Park in Japan together and all this stuff, and it's like, and he said okay I'm committing to it, but we never put it on paper, and so my last few conversations with him is that, he sounds like he's trying to get me to be a hired gun. And I told him, dude, I told you from the first moment I'll never do that, I'm not a hired gun guy. SO I think it's maybe not going to happen. But we, but actually the whole original band got together before we came on tour in Europe and we agreed to do a world tour in 2012.

Okay, so ever further, there were rumors that you were going to play some festivals next summer already.

I think he's just using that to get the rumor going to increase his audience attendance and get some excitement going. And I really resent that because I'm an honorable person, 99.9 percent of the time, I try to be, and fallible like all human beings, but I mean I really, that was always my problem with him, is that he was not an honest trustful person, and I, he never said what he meant, and never did what he said. And that to me is lack of character, and I don't like playing with people with no character. So, you know, it wasn't even his vocal abilities, it wasn't just hanging out talking like you and me right now, it's all fine, everything is good, it was that, and that was all related to money. So, it's all a bad way to conduct yourself.

So this is end of all those stupid rumors because the best ones keep on saying, yeah, half of the new album is already finished, and the next one will be finished on the spring, and then there's world tour coming? I wonder who keeps on putting those out.

Me and Jeff got together, we wrote three new Dokken songs, and they were great, and then Don just started playing his games so, we just said fuck that and I've been hanging in there, but after these last few conversations I think he feels like I really need to do that so he's going to grind me down, and I don't need to do that. I do okay, I don't need to be. more

Craig Goldy: Dio recorded one last song...

Following on from my very own day 3 of Dio day... some good and yet sad news posted from information provided by Craig Goldy:
A new song which legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW, DIO) nearly completed before his death will be released next year, according to former DIO member Craig Goldy. The guitarist tells U.K.'s Classic Rock magazine, "We were working on tracks for a new DIO album just before Ronnie died in May. And we did almost finish one song. Wendy [Dio, Ronnie's widow/manager] has been talking about reissuing [DIO's] 'Magica' album (originally released in 2000) with bonus tracks, including this one." He adds, "The thing is that the lyrics deal with what Ronnie was going through at the time, when he was battling cancer. So now they are very emotional. It's hard to listen without a lump in your throat."

Prior to his death, Ronnie was working on two follow-up albums to "Magica". One of the songs completed during those sessions, "Elektra", was made available as part of the DIO "Tournado" box set (which was originally made for the DIO fall 2009 European tour which was cancelled after Ronnie got sick) in a limited edition of 1,500 copies, signed and numbered. more

Tom Quayle: Port City Pearl Head & Sahana Boost Pedal

Tom Quayle:
Hey guys,

Before I do my full demo I thought I'd give you some idea of the mic'd tones I'm getting from this Port City Pearl head and 2x12 OS Wave cab jamming over a short chord progression in Bb. The playing's okay in places and pretty sketchy in others but it gives you an idea.

I'm running the Suhr on bridge and neck pickups into the Sahana Boost Pedal with the gain on about 1o'clock direct into the head with the bright switch disengaged. This is purely a clean head so all the drive is coming from the pedal. The cab is mic'd with a Rode NT1 recorded into Logic Pro 8. There's a touch of reverb added and the delay is coming from the Toadworks Redux delay in the effects loop.

It's SOOOO dynamic and bear in mind that the amp is at sensible/bedroom volume here.

I'll upload the proper demo soon with MUCH better playing. This is the first time I've played properly in a few weeks so bear with me. My neck is getting much better so thanks for all the support and well wishes guys. The playing is slowly getting better.

All the best,

Tom

MattRach's debut album called Mister JACK is out now !

The concept of an "in the rough album" was the framework to engrave forever the story of an imaginary character called Mr JACK. Eight delirious scenes illustrated by eight instrumental pieces will take you through the crazy adventures of this mysterious Mr JACK. A ninth single is sung in unison and puts an end to the story in a blaze of glory.

Free from any kind of outside pressure, MattRach meticulously recorded his first album at home and the fun of his pals is part and parcel of it.

"In order to avoid having our debut album put to shelves at a horrendous price, we have decided to make a digisleeve version of "Mr. JACK" available only on our website. We especially did not want to impose crazy margins on the fans and web users who have been supporting us from the very start, and we also wanted to carry on making bonus material available for free.

Daniele Liverani, Tommy Ermolli: Prime Suspect new CD

The Italian team formed by Daniele Liverani, Tommy Ermolli and Dario Ciccioni came to the attention of the Melodic Rock crowd on the KHYMERA releases. Liverani, the most experienced musician of the lot, had a long career in the Italian HR/HM scene releasing albums with the Prog Metal group EMPTY TREMOR and later on with the GENIUS Rock Opera in 3 chapters, showcasing an international all star cast of singers including Daniel Gildenlow (Pain of Salvation), Mark Boals, DC Cooper (ex Royal Hunt) and many more.

Since the KHYMERA last two albums saw the bulk of the songwriting from the brothers Tom and James Martin, Liverani started to put together some Melodic Rock tracks which could live on the quality of arrangement and performance of the previous KHYMERA releases.

After a few demos, the three musicians started looking for a suitable singer who could gel with the material written and the search was over when Olaf Senkbeil, fron the german band DREAMTIDE, came into the picture. The icing on the cake was offered by the Swedish songwriter Christian Wolff (On The Rise, Johnny Lima, Mecca) who contributed with two songs “What Do You Want” and “It Could’ve Been You” for the amazing final result.

A brilliant debut album which offers a contemporary and European sounding / flavoured Melodic Rock, which is granted to appeal to the fans of KHYMERA, LAST AUTUMN’S DREAM and class AOR music.

Anthony Xander: modified's engine of creation

Call it a chance meeting or fate, but whatever it was that led to whizz-kid guitarist Anthony Xander finding singer Trish Stanley can only be interpreted as something that was meant to be. They formed a creative partnership that would become the nucleus of Modified, a band that has come a very long way in a very short time. The lineup was completed with the addition of Jones on drums, and recently added bassist Bill Stephenson. Their combination of raw elements from various genres. plus the constant honing of their songwriting skills, has been the equation of their early success.

Metal-laced guitars and tight rhythms mesh with infectious melodies and dark lyrics, delivered by Trish's sultry vocals. True to the band's name, they have come into their own sound and style, and strive to stand out in a landscape cluttered by followers and sound-alikes. Working with producer Michael Borkosky (illScarlett, Low Level Flight, Farewell to Freeway) was the last piece of the puzzle necessary to unlock their full potential. Their first EP "Cruel Temptation" has garnered them some very favourable media attention, an ever-growing fan base, and brought them to the attention of 97.7 HTZ-FM, where they placed third in the station's annual province-wide Rock Search. Their live shows deliver that rare combination of musical precision and raw emotion, as the band rips through their repertoire and Trish enthralls with powerful vocals and captivating stage presence. They continue to gain airplay and popularity across Canada and the U.S. as the life of this EP begins to flourish, and more and more fans discover the unique world of Modified. Their work ethic and relentless pursuit of mastery of their craft has built anticipation of industry types and fans alike. This is a band worth keeping up with.

Jason Sadites Behind The Laughter (CD)
Marco Minnemann came up with the concept of the Normalizer 2 series of music releases. Simply put, Marco played an uninterrupted 51 minute drum solo and handed it out to a variety of musicians to compose their own music using his drums as the base. The only catch is that nobody could listen to anybody else's project before completing their own. Musicians who participated with their own releases include John Czajkowski, Mike Keneally, Phi Yaan-Zak, Alex Machacek, Trey Gunn, Mario Brinkmann and Marco himself. Behind The Laughter is Jason Sadites' contribution to the series. For fans of music by artists such as Zappa, Return To Forever, Rush, Joe Satriani, and Steve Vai, this is a release they don't want to miss. From start to finish it is a roller coaster ride of incredible compositions and amazing performances by Jason Sadites and Marco Minnemann. Catchy melodies intertwined with dizzying guitar playing over ever changing odd-time grooves make for a fusion fans dream. buy
