Allan Holdsworth, Steve Hunt, Jimmy Johnson, Gary Husband: Q & A, Dec 4, 1989, London

Here is an audience recording of Allan answering audience questions in 1989 on a return visit to the UK after leaving in 1983. The audio quality is rough (sorry), but I would say 90 percent or more is understandable. Probably more if you are British.
There are some interesting bits here. Allan says he had tried to record with Michael Brecker but could not get their schedules to match up. A female fan asks Steve Hunt about his fingering skills ( :) ). Jimmy Johnson cracks a funny when asked about what gear he uses ("3rd gear."). Gary likes to drink.
Anyways, Allan gets some slightly rowdy questions here (IMHO) and handles them very well. Humble and funny.
(Also this pic I dredged up is the only one I have ever seen where he is playing the Yamaha Custom built by John Gaudesi)

Steve Hunt, Gary Husband, Jimmy Johnson: Carry On

It was an enormous pleasure to reunite with Steve and Jimmy - my lovely old bandmates from way back with Allan Holdsworth - on this lovely composition and production by Steve!
I will quote Steve's own words for the background...

"This trio, featuring Steve Hunt on Keys, Jimmy Johnson on bass and Gary Husband on drums, was the rhythm section for the guitarist extraordinaire Allan Holdsworth during the 1987 - 1991 period. These three musicians haven't played or recorded together since 1991 making this a very special reunion after 29 years. "Carry On", composed by Steve Hunt, is a dedication to the great legendary composer/guitarist Allan Holdsworth.

"You men carry on........ THEN!!"

Allan would use this phrase often when parting ways. His own way of saying goodbye. At the beginning of the video there is a photograph of the "missing man formation". A photographic metaphor to honor and salute the memory of Allan Holdsworth. Allan taking off to the heavens as the three of us 'Carry On'."

Antoine Fafard's Sphère - Documentary (2016)

Sphère is Antoine Fafard’s fourth album, featuring Gary Husband on drums, lead synth and piano, and Jerry De Villiers Jr on lead guitar. The album follows Ad Perpetuum, a collection that was well received by fans and critics on its release in 2014, described by DownBeat Magazine as “a powerful example of jazz-fusion at its hardest.”

Sphère collects nine new original pieces featuring a blend of foot-tapping grooves, original chord progressions and creative soundscapes. The music offers plenty of space for De Villiers Jr to shine with his rich and warm guitar tone and highly melodic approach. The album also gives a platform for virtuoso multi-instrumentalist Husband to display his intensity and musicality in his highly creative approach to both drums and keyboards.

Fafard gives his signature to all the music, with De Villiers Jr as co-composer on three tracks, and provides the bass frequencies and occasional solos on the electric bass.

During the whole process of making this album, I've tried to do things a little bit different compared to my previous releases.
I've done quite a few and every project has been quite a long term adventure, coming across so many problems, delays, set-backs and all other issues you can think of. That's all rather normal and 'no biggy' because it is part of the game.

But just as a personal statement, I set a goal for myself a few months ago to decide on a deadline and without looking back, doing the impossible. 1st of May 2016, no matter what… and without rushing just to finish a tune. I feel I gave it my very best, and I'm actually really proud of how it turned out!

I was brought up listening to albums (vinyl and cassette tapes at the time), in a time where artists and bands didn't release 15-track records, due to the available space on the LP, I guess. But I enjoyed those a lot. Having tunes on there where you could kind of feel they had to choose the best ones. In this case, there are loads more compositions on my laptop. Because of the deadline, it was important to pick out the ones that were gonna work out the way they were meant to be.
But I did not do that alone. The contributions by Anton Davidyants, Martin Miller, Ray Russell and Gary Husband have been so helpful, inspiring, amazing and meaningful for the project! Can't thank them enough!

The title "Spirit vs. Origin" was inspired by this amazing new microphone company called Aston. They sent me a few mics before I got started with this project. I got blown away by the sound and many of the tracks on the album actually emerged out of experiments with the 2 models. I would make a loop out of recording the weirdest things and one thing would lead to another every time.

I sincerely hope you will appreciate my efforts and, well, meet you at the next deadline?

Seb

Big thanks to Hoshino Benelux (Jeroen Bakx), Sonic Distributions (James Young), Tama drums, Evans drumheads, Promark Sticks, Zildjian, Focusrite, my loving family, Rania Mebarki, Peter Huppertz, Helge Rudolph, Steve Lukather and the Tristan-brothers & sister of course.
