Bill Berends: masterminds Strings On Fire \m/ Rawk \m/

You know I'm often asked what is the meaning of Truth In Shredding... well I think Bill Berends sums it up... check out this 04:30 AM solo, last minute, one take, all out bluesy, rock solo for Strings On Fire!!! \m/ Rawk \m/ ENJOY!

Bill Berends says:
If it wasn't for the last minute nothing would get done. Me & my Gibson 335. MASTERMIND has signed with Lion Music (Finland) for the "Insomna" album to be released February 2010. Cool.

This really is my first take at this... tho' I did run thru it a couple of times yesterday. Sorry for the web cam quality, it's all I got in terms of video.

I am particularly pleased that at 1:11 it kind of sounds like a blues turnaround... I-V-IV-IV-V this really is just a f*cked up blues. At 1:30 it sort of becomes surf rock... Link Wray rules! There really is nothing new under the sun, eh? ;) Shred on!

I just want to show how great a real Gibson sounds plugged straight in, old skool... there's nothing like it, I love these things! I did another take with the Firebird but I won't get it edited in time I'm afraind. Check back for a post mortem. Thanks for looking!

Richard Wright: Milan's TRex monster pedal competition

Richard Wright:
Hey, I really hope you enjoy my solo to the excellent track 'Torn' by Milan Polak.

I am very grateful to him for the opportunity to enter this competition and my only hope is that you like what I have done. Even if I don't win I really enjoyed writing a solo to the backing track because I was able to convey the emotion that I felt from listening to the original track with the poetic melancholy lyrics.

I felt it was important to keep the feel of the track in my solo and not 'shred' over it.. if you want to hear any of that please feel free to check out my other videos on my channel.

Recorded with Kodak Zi6 with inbuilt mic in the spare room so sound quality is ok.

Best of luck to all entrants.

Brian Larkin: Strings on Fire

Brian Larkin first came to my attention on the Shred This competition. For that one he produced not one, but two great videos, chock full of cool musical ideas and state of the art guitar performance. Brian Larkin is back again with another boatload of licks and original executions in this solo effort... as a one take solo, you always get problems. Brian Larkin explains:
Contest entry for "Strings on Fire"... It was done at the last possible minute, and everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong.
