Felix Martin: 14 stringers Live In Boston available

Prosthetic Records is proud to announce the signing of Venezualan 14 string guitarist Felix Martin!

The Prosthetic debut by 14-string guitarist Felix Martin features performances of nine tracks captured at various concerts in Boston throughout 2011 and 2012. Includes material from his self-released first album, his forthcoming sophomore album and two songs that are exclusive to this release.

A graduate of the prestigious Berklee School of Music, Felix Martin writes and performs an eclectic, exhilarating hybrid of instrumental prog-metal, jazz, fusion and world music on an instrument he invented himself the 14-string guitar, which combines two left-handed 7-string guitars on one wide neck that allows him to play both guitars simultaneously, allowing for his unique system of 8-finger chords and slap-tapping techniques.

Here is a live video of his song "The Triangle Tune" off of his upcoming Prosthetic debut "Live in Boston" which will be available on June 5th. You can pre-order the new album here:

Steve Vai: new album release details

Steve Vai will release "The Story Of Light", a new solo album of original material, on August 14. The title comes out on Favored Nations Entertainment, the label Vai founded in 1999. The sprawling and expressive 12-song set continues a conceptual and cosmic narrative arc that began with the artist's most recent studio release, 2005's acclaimed "Real Illusions: Reflections".

Although "The Story Of Light" is largely instrumental, the album does feature guest vocalists, including singer-songwriter Aimee Mann — dueting with Vai on "No More Amsterdam", which she also co-wrote. Beverly McClellan, a season one finalist on "The Voice", appears on "John The Revelator", a track inspired by a vintage recording of blues singer Blind Willie Johnson, whose acid-soaked vocals are in the mix as well. Other highlights include the title track (which opens the album), "Gravity Storm", "The Moon And I", and "Velorum". more

Alex Lifeson: Metal Express Radio interview

In a few weeks’ time your latest album Clockwork Angels will be released. Are you looking forward to finally getting it out?
Yeah, it`s been a long project. We released a couple of songs before the last tour and that`s the first time that we`ve done something like that where we`ve recorded a couple of songs from a record that hasn`t been released yet. It was kind of fun to get those songs out, to work them and play them and have a peak into what the project was going to be. It was great for getting us back into writing which we did last fall where we got into the bulk of the writing and where the whole story started to come together. That`s where we got a sense of where the album was going.
You once said that the recording of Moving Pictures was a difficult process as was Hemispheres. How do you feel about Clockwork Angels? Has this been a fairly smooth record to make?
It was. The only funny thing about it was that it was so spread out. We did little spurts here and there but once we got into the meat of it, it was really a joy to make. We had a great time and had a lot of fun making it and it was very vibrant in the studio. It was great working with Nick Raskulinecz. He is such a music lover, so enthusiastic. He`s such a great presence to be around in the studio. more
