James Williams: Eclectic Shred - awesome track from new solo album

James Williams: Eclectic Shred
A progressive blistering guitar work masterpiece that can be compared to Yngwie Malmsteen Rising Force,Micheal Romeo, Jason Becker,Al Dimeola, and Paul Gilbert. This record is s masterpiece of guitar virtuoso shred and brilliant music for the ages.
Much to the excitement of guitarists around the world, guitar virtuoso James Williams new solo CD 'Eclectic Shred' Featuring guest appearances by Mike LePond from Symphony X and Matt Guillroy from James Labrie/Yngwie Malmsteen, and to be released on the Eclectic Shred label, the new CD by James Willams is an excercize in guitar wizardry, the likes of which have not been heard before!

James has appeared in Guitar Player Magazine with Mike Varney of Shrapnel Records, who said, “James's impressive guitar pyrotechnics are highlighed by arpeggios, speed picking, vibrato and guitar harmonies that work together to create inspiring high level passages that sometimes remind me of Yngwie Malmsteen.” James has recorded with the late bassist Wyman Tisdale and also legendary bassist/composer/arranger Marcus Miller. Performances with guitarist Norman Brown, saxophonist Gerald Albright and many other top artists, along with years of exposure to classical, jazz, metal and R&B, James has created a diverse sound that is on the cutting edge of today's guitarists. Says James,“My inspiration is always to achieve something musical that will last and inspire others.”

Mike Keneally: update and live show dates

Welcome to the rest of the life of the world!

I am home now and relaxing a bit after several months of touring with Dethklok, and with Satriani before that; hugely good times were had. I send out major gratitude arrows to all who took part in any way. I loved it. More of all that next year!

On December 30, Rick Musallam and I will send out 2012 in proper fashion with a duet gig at The Baked Potato in LA. We did a duet tour earlier this year but we didn’t do any gigs on the West Coast, and this will help to make up for that fact. The setlist is real broad, drawing from many different albums and touching on some songs that I hardly ever, or never, play in a band context. Get on over and hang out with us!

On January 25 I’ll be doing a short solo set opening for Alex Machacek, Terry Bozzio and Jimmy Johnson at The Loft at UCSD in San Diego – a wonderful opportunity to share a night of music with these truly masterful musicians. I look forward to playing, and also to hearing those guys! (See the dates below for more info.)

You should know that my dear pals in The Aristocrats have a new live CD/DVD out called BOING, We’ll Do It Live! featuring all of the mindblowing virtuosity you’ve come to expect from these geezers. Consume it!

We are gearing up for the Mike Keneally Band Spring 2013 tour of the UK and Europe, featuring opening act Godsticks. Finally I am bringing my main band overseas for a batch of gigs in a row!

2013 will also see several new releases from me, details about which we will assault you with in the new year.

We at Exowax hope you’re doing well and wish you seriously good tidings in this holiday season, and continue to offer our gratitude for your interest in my music. More coming!

Thanks all!

Chris Vogagis Hey guys! This is my entry in the Mayones/Seymour Duncan Mayones Regius 7 Custom guitar giveaway contest! Hope you all enjoy! It took about 2 hours to write the solo and make the video for it. The guitar is a Schecter Gryphon and my "amp" is a Line 6 Pod HD300. Here's a link to the original contest video: #MayonesDuncan Be sure to check out my band Wide Eyes and give us a "like" at
Here's a screenshot of the lead patch I used for the contest. In Reaper, I added some compression, EQ, and reverb/delay courtesy of Amplitube.

Alex Skolnick: Geek to Guitar Hero [Paperback]

January 15, 2013
Alex is an awkward, introverted child growing up in 1970s Berkeley, California - a confusing vortex of shifting values, rampant drug use and social confusion. Misunderstood by his family and taunted mercilessly by classmates, he suffers from a paralyzing lack of confidence and low self-esteem. His existence is made tolerable when he discovers a superhero-like rock band, KISS, which inspires him to learn the guitar. While in high school, he auditions for Legacy - a group of hard partying, working class, twenty-something metalheads from the East Bay suburbs. After recording his first album with the group at age eighteen, he defies his Ivy League parents rigid academic expectations by forgoing college and hitting the road with metal bands including Slayer, Megadeth, White Zombie and Judas Priest. As his own band, now known as Testament, rises through the ranks of thrash metal, the world begins to take notice of the young guitar prodigy who, despite being fawned over by autograph-seeking metalheads, guitar fanatics and adoring female fans, still feels the pain, awkwardness and ghosts of his past. Soon, a blooming interest in jazz and literature reshapes his values and strengthens his musicianship, bringing further accolades from fans and media but causing resistance and tension from within his inner circle. These experiences cause a realization to unfold: that the scene in which he had first sought his freedom and self-identity is fraught with its own perilous limitations, while the education he'd so fiercely resisted from his family can be invaluable when sought on one's own terms.
