OmnisighT has been said to be the next big thing in progressive rock/metal. Formed as a partnership between virtuoso guitarist (and singer/songwriter) Raj Krishna and professional session drummer Chris Warunki, this deadly duo has been amassing lethal amounts of quality progressive, hook-filled songs. OmnisighT's unique sound can be described as catchy, powerful, raw, emotional, intense and inspiring with thought-provoking lyrics and many odd-time changes. In late 2010, while on a creative-streak, OmnisighT enlisted Producer/Engineer Dave Shannon to document it's material which resulted in the monolithic 80 minute debut (a concept album about addiction and recovery) entitled "Path", which will see a July 2011 digital and (limited) physical release via Warunki Media. "Path" is an epic journey of progressive hard rock and shred metal with killer chops and massive hooks that only OmnisighT can conjure. The path awaits your footsteps.

Aurelien Budynek,Joe Deninzon: Stratospheerius: The Next World... new CD

Joe Deninzon (electric violin/vocals/mandolin/guitar); Aurelien Budynek (guitar/vocals); Jamie Bishop (bass/vocals); Lucianna Padmore (drums)

Renowned electric violinist/vocalist Joe Deninzon and his acclaimed band, Stratospheerius unleash the fire on their new CD, “The Next World…” (Digital Nations). Deninzon has been called “The Jimi Hendrix of the Electric Violin”, because of his innovative style on the electric seven-string violin and his compositions blending rock, funk, jazz, classical, and Eastern European Gypsy influences. He has worked with artists ranging from Phoebe Snow to Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, and Ritchie Blackmore and has written a book for Electric Violin Techniques published by Mel Bay.

“The Next World..."is the fifth release by the band and combines incredible virtuoso musicianship with memorable hooks and intricate arrangements. With influences ranging from Yes, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Frank Zappa, and King Krimson, as well as Muse, Radiohead, and Flaming Lips, this is the bands most ambitious project to date.

Joe grew up listening to guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Steve Vai, Jimi Page, and John McLaughlin, who had a bigger influence on him as a violinist than artists like Itzhak Perlman and Jascha Heifetz. He often refers to himself as “a guitarists trapped in a violinist’s body.”

Stratospheerius features Deninzon on electric violin and lead vocals, French guitarist Aurelien Budynek (Cindy Blackman’s band, Vernon Reid), bassist Jamie Bishop (The Syn, Francis Dunnery), and drummer Lucianna Padmore, praised by Modern Drummer Magazine for her “Deep grooves and serious fusion chops.”

Joe says that “The Next World…” is the band’s most personal and political CD to date. Songs like “Gods” rage against the modern day 24-hour media propaganda machine, “One Foot in The Next World” and “The Prism”, address political hypocrisy amidst epic string soundscapes and distorted guitars.

The opening track, “Release”, deals with not chasing things in life and letting them find you. The song recalls early Rush epics with odd time signatures and philosophical lyrics, climaxing with a wild fiddle solo.

“Tech Support” is about the overstimulated and overmedicated society we live in.

“The House Always Wins”, inspired by a giant army recruiting station in Elko, NV, is a symbolic war protest song, featuring Joe on mandolin. “For this song,” says Joe, “I wanted to give the impression that I had been up all night gambling, so after a whole day of singing, I drank a bottle of scotch and smoked a few cigars before laying down the vocals in one take.”

Instrumental tour-de forces like “Road Rage” are great for blasting while you speed down the highway and try to outrun the cops, and “Fleshbot” is the soundtrack to an imaginary B movie about creatures who are half man/half machine invading the earth in the not-so-far future.

Everything is weaved together by Joe’s lead vocals, and violin played like you’ve never heard it before, through wahs, delays, distortions, loops, whammys, and everything under the sun!

This CD is dedicated to the memory of bassist, Bob Bowen, who played with the band and did the cover artwork.

Escape to “The Next World…”, a musical roller coaster that may inspire your imagination and heighten your senses!

“As at home in the world of Grappelli and O’Connor as he is in the world of Steve Vai and Jimi Hendrix, Joe Deninzon may very well be our next national violin treasure.”

-Jedd Beaudoin

“Memorable hooks, gravity-defying instrumental prowess and a kitchen sink move toward rock and Zappa-esque fusion. If Bela’ Fleck and Frank Zappa had a love child in outer space, it would grow up to sound like these guys do.”

Trevor Rabin,Tal Wilkenfeld: Jacaranda new album

Trevor Rabin (all instruments, guitar); Vinnie Colaiuta, Lou Molino III (drums); Tal Wilkenfeld (bass); Liz Constintine (vocals)

Jacaranda is Trevor Rabin's first new solo project since his album Can't Look Away. The extremely versatile Rabin covers a wide range of styles on the new album, including rock, jazz, and classical. Trevor plays all of the instruments himself, with the exception of drums on the tracks, for which he brought in noted jazz/rock drummer Vinnie Colaiuta (Sting, Frank Zappa), longtime Rabin drummer Lou Molino III, and Trevor’s son Ryan Rabin (Grouplove). He also brought in noted bass guitarist Tal Wilkenfeld (Jeff Beck, Herbie Hancock) who plays on the track “Anerley Road.” Vocalist Liz Constintine is featured on the track “Rescue,” inspired by the film The Guardian.

Trevor has long been regarded as one of the finest guitarists in the world. During his 15 years as the lead guitarist/singer of the group YES, Trevor wrote many of their hits, including “Owner of a Lonely Heart”. His collaborations include working with Seal, Michael Jackson, Manfred Mann, Tina Turner, Bob Dylan and Paul Rodgers to name a few.

Trevor Rabin is also one of the most sought-after film composers in the business. He has created music that crosses barriers and genres that have made him one of the premier composers of contemporary music. As a guitarist, keyboardist, singer, songwriter, producer or recording engineer, Trevor has established himself as a leader in the contemporary music field. Some of his most noted soundtracks include: Armageddon, Remember the Titans, National Treasure, Race to Witch Mountain, Get Smart, The Guardian and The Sorcerer's Apprentice.

He has received numerous awards including 11 BMI Film and TV Awards, a Grammy (Best Rock Instrumental Performance for “Cinema,” from the album 90125 by Yes), a Lifetime Achievement Award (Los Angeles Music Awards), a Career Achievement Award (Temecula International Film Festival), and Gold Medal for Excellence in Film Music Award (Park City Film Festival).

Neal Schon: two albums in the works

Neal Schon has told Ultimate Classic Rock that he has a new guitar-centric album nearly ready. It reunites him with his former Journey bandmate, drummer Steve Smith.

Schon says: “I’m proud of the record, but I kind of winged it. I walked in and I didn’t have anything prepared at all. I just had an open slate with a bunch of paintbrushes [in the form of] guitars and amplifiers.”

Schon says that Smith would lay down some tracks, upon which he would then expand. “And then I’d say ‘can you go have lunch or something for half an hour and then come back and I’ll be done.’ So I’d map it out and put a rhythm guitar down, arrange the thing the way I heard it in my head and then Steve would come back and he’d listen to it.

“He’d write down my arrangement and then he’d go out and replay the drums to my new arrangement and a click and play it like it was a full band playing. He’s just amazing like that. And then I went back and I replayed some of the rhythm guitar [parts], some of them I kept. And then I’d start playing solos, even without bass, just freelance soloing and then I played the bass on it to go with the solos, so it came about in a different kind of way, but when you listen to it, it sounds like a really connected trio with keys here and there.”

And Schon has another album close to completion. He recently recorded with Journey bandmate Deen Castronovo and bassist Marco Mendoza for another album that he’s mixing currently.

Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, John Mayer: new albums available

Tedeschi Trucks Band - Everybody's Talkin'

Everybody's Talkin' is a live document of the band's world tour behind 2011's "Revelator". It features a mix of Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi numbers and a selection of cover songs.

'Revelator' was branded a 'classic' (★★★★) by Rolling Stone, and won the Grammy Award for Best Blues Album at the 54th Grammy Awards. The best way to hear great blues rock is live and in the raw, so be sure to check out this husband and wife duo backed by a sublime group of musicians.

John Mayer - Born and Raised
Fate has not been on John Mayer's side lately. Born and Raised was originally slated for an October 2011 release, but was held back due Mayer's throat issues that would prevent him touring behind the album.

Now his fans will have to wait no longer for new music from the guitar man, but illness will still keep John from the stage to promote the new record. Expect more of a stripped back, country feel from this release, with plenty of Mayer's laidback vibe.
