"Writing is the oddest thing for me, I never know what will trigger it.
Sitting one day in a hotel by the pool, I lifted my head,
& out of nowhere, there she was...
Venus rising from the water... she was gorgeous...

but... the thing that struck me was,
she had these big sad eyes, that you feel you can get completely lost in...
contrasting her beauty...
having that image in my mind for days, It somehow evolved into this tune.

Bringing this tune to the band, the tune's eery ballad nature,
proved to be a unique challenge for me to improvise on,
It was either you feel it, or forget about it, nowhere to hide."

Joe Bonamassa: announced that his brand new solo album

Grammy-nominated blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa has today announced that his brand new solo album “Different Shades Of Blue” will be released on Monday September 22nd (Mascot / Provogue).

Different Shades Of Blues is Bonamassa’s first solo studio album since 2012’s Driving Towards The Daylight, which debuted at #2 on the Official UK Album Chart. It is also his first album to feature all-original material, penned by the man himself.

The resulting album is Bonamassa’s most accomplished work to date, It’s a blues record that explores the outer reaches and the many different sounds that shape the genre.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been involved in the writing on an entire album, “ says Bonamassa. “So I decided I wanted to make a completely original blues album. I’ve really had to push myself to make everything I do better than the last project. I know the fans expect it. And I feel like I owe it to the fans to give them an original record after all these years.”

Jason Becker: working on a new acoustic song, titled “Magic Woman.”

Jason Becker is currently working on a new acoustic song, titled “Magic Woman.”

Jason Becker began developing a formidable reputation during the late 1980s for his neo-classical approach to the electric guitar which vividly decorated his efforts with the instrumental group Cacophony, and later his debut studio album, the perhaps appropriately titled ‘Perpetual Burn.’ Becker’s impressive approach would go on to catch the interest of then-former Van Halen lead vocalist David Lee Roth, who enlisted the aspiring musician to serve as his second solo guitarist, replacing a fellow respected player, Steve Vai.

Xander Demos: has begun recording a new "solo" mostlyinstrumental album

Xander Demos has begun recording a new "solo" mostly instrumental album. The newly titled Runways And Waterways is the follow-up to his critically acclaimed debut album, Guitarcadia. A late 2014 release is expected

Xander Demos, best known for his work with James Rivera's Sabbath Judas Sabbath and his own debut collection of guitar gymnastic "Master-shreds," Guitarcadia, has begun recording his much-anticipated "solo" follow-up release to that album.  Like Guitarcadia, the newly titled, Runways and Waterways (formerly referred to as The Runway Obsession) will be a collection of 10 tracks, including two vocal tracks and two cover songs.  A late 2014 release is expected.

Xander issued this statement a couple of days ago: "It's June 9th and this is the official announcement: My second solo record is underway as of today. The follow-up to my Guitarcadia album is called Runways and Waterways and it will follow a similar pattern to my first CD. One of the first tracks is getting it's rhythm tracks done right now... sooo, I'm marking this day as "Day 1"... I guarantee it won't take as long as Guitarcadia did, but it will feature some really cool songs and great guests. In the words of the Joker... "and here we................go!"

Meanwhile, Xander and his band, XDB are in the midst of recording their first "band" project, Dancing Through Daggers.  The band is opening for metal legends, Stryper on June 12th, in Pittsburgh. XDB will be performing at Skull Fest and Rock N' Skull, where they will also be backing Shawn Pelata (Line of Fire) and John Elefante (Kansas.)  Xander is also
continuing his busy press blitz.

Xander Demos is a rock and metal guitarist, based in Pittsburgh, PA. He has performed and recorded with James Rivera (Helstar, Malice,) Sabbath Judas Sabbath, Liberty N’ Justice, Ged Rylands’ Rage Of Angels, Modern Superstar, and others. His debut album, Guitarcadia was mixed by CJ Snare of Firehouse. The title track from the upcoming XDB release, Dancing Through Daggers was mixed by JK Northrup of King Kobra fame. Xander will appear in the upcoming movie release, Hair I Go Again. For more information, visit

Jason Sadites, Marco Minnemann, Ric Fierabracci: great performance play through of "Demagogue"

Tom Guarna: Rush - the new album available

Tom Guarna: Rush
Tom Guarna (guitar & compositions); Joel Frahm (tenor saxophone); Danny Grissett (piano); Orlando le Fleming (bass); Johnathan Blake (drums & cymbals)

Brooklyn born and raised guitarist / composer Tom Guarna is a musician's musician, a stellar talent who can seemingly play anything, and play it brilliantly. His fluid lines, creative chord-voicings, captivating tone, and profound solos have made him a first-call musician for the likes of Manuel Valera and New Cuban Express (in the band nominated for a 2013 Grammy Award), Blood Sweat and Tears, Wallace Roney, Branford Marsalis, Randy Brecker, Lenny White, the late Mulgrew Miller, Billy Hart, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Greg Hutchinson, John Benitez, Joe Locke, E.J. Strickland and many, many others.

And yet, his prolific sideman work is only half of the story. After five acclaimed recordings under his own name, Guarna recently experienced yet another deluge of inspiration, and the result is his highly anticipated new recording, Rush, to be released on February 25, 2014, on the intrepid, indy-label, Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records. Guarna explains, "Rush was inspired by the sudden burst of creativity that can sometimes overtake you, inspiring you to seize the moment and engage in the creative process. I am always composing and conceptualizing new music, but the recording of this album followed a particularly inspired time when it seemed that I couldn't write the music fast enough. So 'rush' really best describes the excitement and joy I experienced when working on the music for this project."

Rush features Danny Grissett on piano & Fender Rhodes; "I first played with Danny in bassist Richie Goods group. We did a European tour and also played some gigs in the states. I had been a fan of his playing prior to working with him. Danny has a beautiful touch that creates a beautiful tone. That combined with his great feel and harmonic sense made him the first person I thought of when I decided to record. Joel Frahm on soprano & tenor saxophones; Joel recorded on my third Steeplechase recording titled Wingspan. He has a great sound and beautiful harmonic concept. Orlando Le Fleming on bass; I first met Orlando while I was at The New School. We played together in various groups over the years, and I always loved his sound and feel. And, Johnathan Blake on drums; Johnathan and I first played together in George Colligan's group. I love the way Johnathan can shape a song. His use of colors and how loose his feel can be while still achieving accuracy.

Warrel Dane,Brad Hull,Lenny Rutledge: Sanctuary finishes new album, 'The Year The Sun Died'; announces street date

Reactivated Seattle metal legends SANCTUARY have wrapped-up the recording of their new album, The Year The Sun Died! Due to be released on Sept. 29th in Europe and on Sept. 30th in North America, The Year The Sun Died was recorded in Seattle at Soundhouse Studios with Zeuss (WHITECHAPEL, HATEBREED) and features 11 tracks, plus a bonus cover of THE DOORS' classic, "Waiting For The Sun".

Front-man Warrel Dane comments: "Now that hell has officially frozen over and the pigs have flown, I can proudly say 'The Year The Sun Died' is finished. The record that nobody thought would ever get here has come in kicking...and yes, there is screaming!
Working with Zeuss (aka the commander) was great. He really pushed us all to be better. This is a very modern sounding record with roots still firmly planted in old school, six-string metal, and I gotta give him creds for that."

SANCTUARY was formed in Seattle in 1985 and released two studio albums on Epic Records, Refuge Denied in 1987 and Into the Mirror Black in 1989. They toured the world with the likes of MEGADETH, WARLOCK, FATES WARNING, DEATH ANGEL and many more. In 1992, the band officially disbanded with singer Warrel Dane and bassist Jeff Loomis forming the critically acclaimed group, NEVERMORE. SANCTUARY announced in 2010 that they would be reuniting and played metal festivals in both Europe and the USA with the original line-up, save for guitarist Sean Blosi. Former FORCED ENTRY guitarist Brad Hull has stepped in to fill his shoes as a permanent touring and recording member.

SANCTUARY line-up:
Warrel Dane - Vocals
Jim Sheppard - Bass
Brad Hull - Guitars
Lenny Rutledge - Guitar
Dave Budbill - Drums
