JOE SATRIANI And STEVE VAI Benefit Concert Raises Over $100000 - July 13, 2011
he House of Blues in Hollywood, California rocked this past Sunday when legendary guitarists Joe Satriani and Steve Vai hosted a second benefit concert in support of music industry veteran and their good friend, Cliff Cultreri. "A Benefit for Cliff II" took place on Sunday, July 10th and featured performances by Satriani and Vai, as well as special opening act featuring Brendon Small and friends. Other special guests and friends of the duo, including Dweezil Zappa, Orianthi, Brendon Small and Tony MacAlpine, joined in for the ending jam, while RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS/CHICKENFOOT drummer Chad Smith and Babyface, watched from the balcony.
Between acts, a number of items from both Satriani and Vai's personal collections were auctioned off, including custom amps, cabinets, pedal's and yes, even guitars. An autographed Satriani red JS1200 raised $6200, while a custom Fibenare guitar raised $4800. Satriani and Vai, along with other artists, also graciously donated various items to be auctioned online.
Beginning July 5 and running through July 15, fans can continue to bid on items such as a Steve Vai signed 20th Anniversary JEM guitar commemorating the entire line of Ibanez guitars. Steve used this guitar for the duration of the 2007 "String Theories Tour" and on the Grammy-nominated song "Now We Run", featured on the platinum award-winning DVD "Where the Wild Things Are"; the current bid stands at $15,000. Other auction items include a Joe Satriani JS1000 guitar with personalized art (currently at $5000), a Joe Satriani JS1200 guitar autographed by all the musicians, and a Paul Gilbert autographed Ibanez guitar used on the RACER X "Getting Heavier" album. more
2011 Workshop booking open!
On August the 12th Tom and I will start our 3 day workshop/extended masterclass session for up to 15 guitarists. The course will run from the 12th-14th of August. This annual workshop ran last year with great success and was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend with tons of playing, learning and eating/drinking! This year promises to be even better with a completely new line up of topics in the rock/fusion genre ranging from technique development, creating your own sound, moving from rock to fusion, advanced timing concepts and improvisational techniques plus many others. There will be lots of playing and jamming opportunities and as last time, every attendee will go away with a CD packed full of all the material taught in PDF form with video examples, mp3 backing tracks and licks galore. We have a purpose built school designed for teaching groups, with superb facilities and gear on hand for you guys to use.
Tickets for the 3 days are £250 which represents superb value for money as lessons run from 10am to 5pm every day with lessons taught by both Tom and myself each day. Payments can be made in one lump sum or over 3 payments with the first payment securing your place on the course.
Saltaire is beautiful part of the world and has world heritage status as a historic town set in the heart of Yorkshire with art gallerys, superb bars and restaurants and some of the best beers and curry you could ever wish for. There are some great hotels to suit all budgets, within walking distance of the school and we arrange social events for each evening. Last years attendees became friends for life and learnt as much from one another as from Tom and I.
The level of the course is upper intermediate to advanced with a basic knowledge of major scale modes and 7th chords a minimum requirement. A reasonable technical control of the instrument and a willingness to play with other guitarists is a bonus too.
If you have any questions at all feel free to contact me at email@example.com for information, to book your place or get advice when booking hotels in the area. http://www.rick-graham.co.uk/workshops.html
