Brian Tarquin: Beyond The Warrior’s Eyes

“Beyond The Warrior’s Eyes”By Brian Tarquin & his Heavy Friends

Lifting up our veterans through music is something that Brian Tarquin & his Heavy Friends will do until there are no more wars. Brian’s friends include superhero musicians that love working with him on a number of albums he’s released from hard rock to jazz over the past (20) years). “'‘Beyond The Warrior’s Eyes' (out January 19, on Downtown Music/Dashgo Distribution) honors military soldiers who defend our freedoms. I wanted a true star-studded musician tribute of soaring instrumental songs. So, I was very fortune to get such iconic players as Jean Luc Ponty, Eric Johnson, Robben Ford and Steve Morse to help me express our gratitude.”

A heavy and glorious fusion-prog collection, “Beyond The Warrior’s Eyes” is Brian and his friends (Jean Luc Ponty, Eric Johnson, Robben Ford (Miles Davis), Steve Morse (Deep Purple), Dean Brown (David Sanborn), Hal Lindes (Dire Straits), Chris Poland (Megadeth), John Tropea (Billy Cobham), Steve Kindler (Jeff Beck), Carl Verheyen (Supertramp) & Larry McCray (John Mayall), the late Phil Naro, and the Budapest Symphony Orchestra) latest collaborative album. “Beyond The Warrior’s Eyes” mission is to support the charity, Hope For The Warriors, who provide medical care, mental health counseling, professional training and education, physical conditioning and transition services for wounded, ill, and injured Marines and Navy members. https://www.hopeforthewarriors.org/

The album “Beyond The Warrior’s Eyes” was produced, engineered and composed entirely by Brian Tarquin. Well-connected with star musicians, he is a one-man army playing all instruments except drums where studio drummer Reggie Pryor lends his services. The album was recorded in Tarquin’s Jungle Room Studios on 2” analog tape through a vintage Trident London 24 console and a host of analog outboard gear. Brian transferred the recording to either Pro Tools or Logic, finishing the recording digitally. He lastly recorded all final mixes down to an Ampex 440C ¼” 2 track analog tape. Quotes from Artists on “Beyond The Warrior’s Eyes”

“Beyond The Warrior’s Eyes” is the song that inspired me the most to play on when Brian asked me to collaborate on his album, and I am very happy to be part of this project to help U.S. Veterans get what they need. -Jean Luc Ponty

Brian Tarquin’s superb latest offering is brimming with fresh, funky, killer grooves and majestic soaring guitar melodies featuring French virtuoso violinist Jean Luc Ponty, shredding it up on “Beyond The Warrior Eyes.”-Hal Lindes (Dire Straits)

It's always my pleasure to play on anything Brian brings my way, but this particular project I felt was a bit more important. Here we honor our veterans for their courage and sacrifice. -Chris Poland (Megadeth)

Brian is a great guy to work with and is very versatile at all parts of this music business. Kudos to Phil Naro, coming up with another great vocal part for “These Colors Don't Run”! -Steve Morse (Deep Purple)

Collaborating on “La Sierra del Norte” with Brian was a joy. The challenge was to play as melodic as possible in 6/8 time with a completely different tone than the melody. -Carl Verheyen (Supertramp)

Brian has put together a stellar group of guitarists and provided wonderful vehicles for creative improvisation. I'm thrilled to be a part of the project and this worthy cause. -Dean Brown (David Sanborn)

Emmy Award Winning Guitarist Brian Tarquin's “Vegas Blue” In Memory of Las Vegas Tragedy

https://open.spotify.com/album/0O0YGOERCLSYZrNWYpSCnH?si=fwdcqBKOQU6-UF4fmL2Neg

Featuring guest artists Steve Morse, Trey Gunn, Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal, Phil Naro, Hal Lindes, Tony Carey and others!

Las Vegas, Nevada, Mandalay Bay Hotel, October 1st, 2017. This was the site of a tragic and, all too familiar, occurrence involving a deadly mass shooting at the hands of a deranged gunman. What began that evening as a peaceful and celebratory country music concert ended in bullet-riddled chaos and carnage for countless patrons and innocent by-standers. This latest recording project by multi-Emmy winning guitarist/producer/engineer Brian Tarquin and company is dedicated to helping the families and survivors of this horrific mass shooting. And, in doing so, may also shine the spotlight on the need for sensible, responsible and humane gun laws and safety.

Says Brian, “This release is dedicated to the victims of the tragic events that occurred at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas October 1, 2017. All of our hearts and prayers go out to them and their families. Through this music we have tried to creatively express our deepest feelings.”

If music is, indeed, a supreme healer then one needs look no further than this visionary endeavor. And, as with many of Tarquin’s previous charitable compilations, the material, guest stars and production is first rate. From start to finish the listener is transported to that fateful evening, yet uplifted through the power of these stellar performances.

Says Brian, “Time after time we watch senseless acts of gun violence in the news media creating a sense of indifference in our consciousness. We musicians have come together to bring emotion and awareness through our performances.”

“Brian is a very good guitar player, the 'Godfather of Fusion' gives him an A plus and his musicians too. The song that I played on, 'Pulse 49' is a beautiful piece of music We artists have to do everything we can to educate, enlighten and inspire the world in which we live.” - Larry Coryell

Liner Notes by: Michael Molenda,
Editor-in-Chief of Guitar Player Magazine

When many guitar fans think of “guitar masters,” the default perception is the wingo-wingo-diddley-diddley variety of shredder who has an entire library of fabulous guitar faces. Brian Tarquin has a different take on the “master” label, which is why his GUITAR MASTERS series is inspiring, thrilling, and extremely musical.

Tarquin seeks out transcendent players in all styles and levels of notoriety — known or unknown, just breaking out or near forgotten, and all points in between — to deliver a mesmerizing onslaught of tones, techniques, and melodic journeys. As a result, guitar nuts are treated to an sonic master class of stunning riffs, solos, and motifs — all fresh material for ripping off and evolving into their own guitaristic “trick bags” -- while guitar fans get an exciting and diverse listening experience unmatched by most genre-specific compilations. The 14 tracks on GUITAR MASTERS, Vol. 2 zig-zag between the intense passion and Latin-rock fusion of a young Carlos Santana, the stark yet ecstatic sting of B.B. King working his magic live, the twang-and-skank of country virtuoso Pete Anderson, and the twin-harmony fusillades of Jimmy and Johnny Ryan. You also get blues moves by Larry McCray and JW Jones, a classic 1970 Jimmy Page/Jeff Beck collaboration, a shred-tastic romp by Michael Lee Firkens and Neil Zaza, and Tarquin’s own electrifying workouts with former Jeff Beck keyboardist Max Middleton and Dixie Dregs/Deep Purple fretburner Steve Morse. And, finally, rock and hard-rock disciples can be schooled by former Dire Straits guitarist Hal Lindes, Beat the Bone, Alex De Rosso, and a ripping version of Van Halen’s “Light Up the Sky” by Yngwie Malmsteen, Billy Sheehan, and Doug Pinnick.

As with GUITAR MASTERS, Vol. 1, Tarquin’s talent for compiling brilliant and impassioned guitar moments brings out all that is glorious and holy about the act of playing guitar extremely well. While it’s a different set of moods and approaches you’ll hear on GUITAR MASTERS, Vol. 2, every note, phrase, tone color, and impact of pick and/or finger on string will send shivers down your spine. You’d have to be dead or deaf not to be moved by the beautiful noises you’ll hear on this loud and proud CD.

Reviewer Robert Silverstein writes in the liner notes, "When you remember that Jimi Hendrix was heading toward a jazz rock fusion sound before he died, then you'll realize that Third Stone From The Sun is just the sort of album that Jimi would dig."

Guitar Noize reviews Brian Tarquin's latest release.

Frank Gambale’s track is cool with its Latin flavour which sounds like Santana in places but with way better technique (sorry Santana fans!), Frank is such a great player and it is nice to hear him actually showing what he is capable of as he has the tendancy to sound a bit elevator music most of the time.

Other highlights include Hal Lindes - Aphrodite, Andy Timmons - Manhattan and Blue Wind by Billy Sheehan! Yes the crazy bass man is at it again with 4 & 6 string solos!

Robin Trower: brian tarquin interview of the new cd seven moons tone

News:
01-12-2008:
Robin Trower's new CD, Seven Moons Tone is in ready, Brian Tarquin asks Robin Trower about his recording techniques on his latest, Seven Moons:
I used 2 Cornell “Plexi” 18/20 amps—these are the 20 watt 1x12 combos. I would split from my pedals, running one clean and one more overdriven. On the track “Just Another Day,” I used my DejáVibe going through one amp and the other straight. My pedals were a Fulldrive II and a Clyde wah, both by Fulltone, as is the DejáVibe. The guitar was my signature model Stratocaster from the Fender custom shop, built by Todd Krause. This model is really quite a vintage-type Strat (saddles) with a seventies neck with large frets and locking tuners. I thought the larger headstock might possibly give the guitar a bit more resonance. The neck pickup is a fifties reissue, the middle is a sixties reissue, and the bridge pickup a modern winding for more oomph.
