Steve Vai: Open House and Master Class

The Perfect 5th Musical Arts Center
Grand Opening Weekend Sept. 24 & 25
Open House and Steve Vai Master Class

Mechanicsburg, PA September 19, 2011 - The Perfect 5th Musical Arts Center (P5), a new music school located on the Carlisle Pike in Mechanicsburg, will be celebrating its grand opening this weekend with two big events. On Saturday, The Perfect 5thwelcomes the public to their facility for an open house. And on Sunday, the school is sponsoring a master class by internationally renowned guitarist Steve Vai at the Whitaker Center.

The open house takes place on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 24th from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. Everyone is invited to stop by during those hours to tour the building, meet the teachers, see demonstrations and enjoy some light refreshments provided byBistro 19 (York, PA). Location and contact info is as follows:

The Perfect 5th Musical Arts Center
6240 Carlisle Pike
Mechanicsburg, PA 17050
888-P5-CENTER (888-752-3682)

Then on Sunday, Sept. 25th at 2:30pm, Steve Vai will present a master class at the Whitaker Center in downtown Harrisburg, PA. This 3-hour unique musical and educational event will provide a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience Steve Vai's amazing talent as he demonstrates and discusses guitar techniques, music theory, the music business and methods to discover and unlock an individual's personal musical identity. Steve has career sales exceeding 15 million units with 3 Grammy awards and 12 nominations to his credit. You can read more in the originalmaster class press release on the Perfect 5th's website.

The Perfect 5th Musical Arts Center offers traditional music lessons, instrumental and vocal, from qualified instructors for every skill level, but it is much more than that. Private tutoring on audio recording equipment is available – everything from learning home recording software up to state-of-the-art professional recording studio gear. Video recording and post production lessons are also offered. The music business is covered in group workshops and private consultations for musicians and those entering the industry.

Various curriculums that address the needs of local school districts as well as home and cyber schooled children are in development. Students will be able to take lessons and attend classes at the school with some courses also available over the internet. P5's director and co-founder, Eric Wirsing, a Berklee-trained musician who won first place in a recent Dean Guitars "Guitar God" contest, says "With a lack of arts funding in the school systems, it's the perfect time for local communities to take on the responsibility of passing down the importance of music in our lives. This is our ultimate goal at The Perfect 5th Musical Arts Center."

Special events, such as master classes, workshops and clinics, will be offered throughout the year at the P5 facility. Occasional larger events, like the Steve Vai master class, will happen off site.

Rock The Stage at P5 is the in-house rock school. Beginning in December of this year, rock band camps and semester-long programs will be offered. These will include individual lessons and weekly band practices, followed by a concert at a local venue.

The P5 building has newly constructed lesson rooms, classrooms and comfortable waiting areas. It is handicap accessible and free wifi is available throughout. Musical supplies are available for sale at the front desk.

Howard Hirsch is the co-founder and CEO. He explains the motivation for creating The Perfect 5th: "Opening a musical arts center has been a dream of mine for a long time. I've taken lessons for many years and my own musical journey has been enriching, however limited. I hope that this school will bring a roundedness in learning to teach not only the instrument but to bring a person to performance level, whether it be just for their own family or in a band." He continues, "I have been a business owner in this area for 30 years and hope to give back to our community by creating this musical arts center. A part of our mission is to generate charitable events such as the Steve Vai signed guitar that we are auctioning off with proceeds going to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Central PA. We're also hoping that in the future we can develop programs to give musical instruments and free lessons to underprivileged kids and adults."

Associate Director Terry Selders, owner of Susquehanna Entertainment and former manager of The Badlees, has enjoyed his time at P5 since joining the staff in July. "There's a great vibe here," he says, "lots of positive energy and attitudes. The desire to be a real help to people is paramount. Maybe you have a talented child, but are not sure what direction to take him or her. We can help define your goals and provide everything from lessons to career advice. If you only want music lessons, we have that. If you just bought some recording software but can't figure out how to use it, we can help. For working bands, it's often a question of how to promote themselves. We can show you how to develop and implement a plan to meet your goals. The idea is to provide focus and real learning opportunities for individuals at every stage of their musical life."

All media inquiries should be directed to Terry Selders at or by phone at 888-752-3683 ext. 709. All other questions or comments can be posted on the Facebook event pages at (click on "Events").

Guitar work is never done until it's done... currently shortlisting some great songs for the guitar idol final.

News: Win a 60th Anniversary Fender Telecaster!

Earlier this year, Fender introduced two models commemorating the company’s original pair of groundbreaking instruments—the Telecaster and Precision Bass. The 60th Anniversary Telecaster features a new Blackguard Blonde finish created especially for the occasion.

Thanks to Fender Musical Instruments and the 2011 Ultimate Guide to Guitar & Bass Gear, one lucky player will win a 60th Anniversary worth $1,899.99. Here’s a little info on this iconic instrument.

The Telecaster

The rich history of Fender guitars begins with the instrument that was officially named the Telecaster in February 1951. It was the world’s first successful solidbody-electric guitar, and it transformed the role of the guitar in popular music. Still elegantly simple after 60 years, it remains the versatile voice of diverse and creative guitarists worldwide. The 60th Anniversary Telecaster honors its predecessors by packing more than half a century of classic sound and design into one collectible, U.S.-made instrument. Features include an ash body with a Blackguard Blonde thin-skin lacquer finish, a tinted maple neck and fretboard with a modern 9.5” radius, medium-jumbo frets, American Vintage Telecaster single-coil pickups, a black pickguard, an American Standard bridge with bent-steel saddles and a stamped brass plate, modern tuners, a commemorative neckplate, and a Fender/SKB molded case.
How to Win

It’s easy! Check out the Official Rules below. You’ll be entered automatically by filling out the required entry information at the links below. And don’t forget to tell your bass player that he or she can go for the Fender 60th Anniversary Precision by clicking to The contest closes on September 30, 2011. The winner of the 60th Anniversary Telecaster and the 60th Anniversary Precision Bass will be selected at random, and will be notified by email no later than October 31, 2011. enter
