Vernon Reid, Doug Wimbish: Premier Guitar Rig Rundown

Article and photos: http://bit.ly/LivingColourRR2016

Before their Nashville gig in April of 2016, Living Colour’s Vernon Reid and Doug Wimbish met with PG’s John Bohlinger to talk about their combined sorcery that makes guitar, bass and drums sounds like an army of instruments. Reid and Wimbish utilize killer chops and miles of pedals and cables—making their tech Jeff Cummings the hardest-working man in show business. During the interview, bass legend Billy Cox crashes the party for some avuncular bass commentary.

Reid’s muse has recently brought him to work with PRS to create his No.1, a 2015 S2 Vela VR prototype with EMG 57/66 pickups and a Roland GK synth pickup. The somewhat complicated controls allow Reid to mix, match, and blend all the pickups together.

Since 1987, Wimbish has played his ’87 NS2 Spector signature model prototype bass that features an EMG PJ Pickup set wired into a Spector preamp section and strung with Rotosound .040-.100 strings.

Ty Tabor, John Myung, Rod Morgenstein: Stain On The Sun - The Jelly Jam

The Jelly Jam will release their epic new album Profit on 27th May 2016 via Music Theories Recordings.

Pre-order: http://smarturl.it/TheJellyJam-MLG

Ty Tabor about 'Stain On The Sun':

"Stain On The Sun was an attempt to bring heaviness into musical form without relying on mainstays such as electric guitar distortion or volume. This is essentially an acoustic song that explores heaviness on a different level."

"Stain On The Sun is the second chapter of the Prophet's journey. He recognizes that mundane life and it's redundancy can consume a person's world to such a degree that it becomes difficult to think about things outside of one's own existence. He asks a single question..."

The Jelly Jam, featuring DREAM THEATER’s John Myung, WINGER/DIXIE DREGS' (live) Rod Morgenstein and KING’S X Ty Tabor, will return in 2016 with a new album and their first ever world tour.

Profit is a glorious and affecting cinematic experience; full of suspense, the record follows the heroic yet daunting journey of The Prophet who, inspired by a deep sense of responsibility embarks on a mission to try and save the world, to open the eyes of Those Who Will Not See.

The Jelly Jam will support their latest album with a full tour (dates to be announced). As guitarist Ty Tabor explains, “This album is without a doubt the most special moment the band has ever had together and we must make touring real this year to support this album.”

Profit is now available to pre-order from the MLG store. The 180 grams vinyl is limited to 2000 copies, and comes with a downloadcard.

Billy Zoom: Founding Guitarist Rejoins Band During Chemo treatment for cancer

X RE-ZOOMED!! SUMMER TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED WITH BILLY ZOOM RETURNING TO PERFORM LIVE

Founding Guitarist Rejoins Band During Chemo Maintenance

(Los Angeles – April 26, 2015) Announced today, BILLY ZOOM makes his return to X! While still undergoing chemo maintenance for his cancer, Billy Zoom has returned to his duties as only he can; playing guitar in the band that he founded, X.

According to Billy, “After a while, you just get over having cancer and you just want to go back to work!”

And back to work they shall go! Beginning next Cinco de Mayo weekend, the previously announced Tres Bandas Companeros tour performed by the ultimate trio of Los Angeles-based bands – X, Los Lobos and The Blasters takes off with a May 6th show in Orange County before hitting LA on May 7th and San Diego on May 8th. Then, in August, X will start their “Re-Zoomed” dates in Virginia on August 12th before heading to NYC, Philly, Boston, Milwaukee, Chicago, and a pair of shows in Detroit end on August 21st. The punk quartet will then head back to Orange County to perform as part of the Ohana Music & Arts Festival in Dana Point before heading north for two more shows in Santa Cruz and Petaluma on August 28 and 29th.

Formed in 1977, X quickly established themselves as one of the best bands in LA's flourishing first wave punk scene. Featuring vocalist Exene Cervenka, vocalist/bassist John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom, and drummer DJ Bonebrake, their debut 45 was released on the seminal Dangerhouse label in 1978. While these songs were later re-recorded for their second album, the versions on Adult Books / We're Desperate reveal X's raw talent for totally sincere songwriting and stripped-down rock n' roll. This past April, the band re-issued that first single, in its original 7-inch format, as limited edition colored vinyl.

The original line-up of X remains John Doe, Exene Cervenka, Billy Zoom, and D.J. Bonebrake.

Tony MacAlpine: back to work recording !

Tony MacAlpine
Hello my Friends,

I would like to say hello to all of you and wish you the best for the spring and summer.

In August and September I will be returning to the studio to work on my newest instrumental release that has long been in the making, but regrettably had to be delayed due to uncontrollable circumstances.

It has been a year since "Concrete Gardens" was been released, and in that time I have had much time to reflect on the very long journey that I have been on since my first album "Edge of Insanity." It is with love and respect that I thank you all for traveling with me on this adventure since the beginning!

I am thrilled to announce that I have been given the green light to return to performing live, and will do that starting on April 30th on tour in Europe withMichel Polnareff Officiel.

Thank you all very much for the positive thoughts, love and support.

The best and only the best to you all. Have a great musical summer! See you out there soon!!

Tony
