Billy Gibbons: talks about new ZZ Top CD

Story link:

Marty Friedman: charity event for victims of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami

Marty Friedman will perform with Tibetan songstress Alan at MTV's charity event for victims of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. Marty will also play one of his own songs, with a very special "secret" guest Japanese guitarist, at this unique event, which features TSUCHIYA ANNA, AI, MAY J., TOKIO HOTEL, ICONIQ and several others.

Many domestic and international stars such as James Blunt and Lady Gaga are selling their personal goods for the charity at the flea market.

Marty covered Alan's "Asu e no Aanka" song on his ninth solo album, "Tokyo Jukebox", which was released in Europe on February 22, 2010 via Mascot Records. The CD featured extensive liner notes (written by Friedman in the "story behind the song" format) which are exclusive to the European release. more

Mike Orlando: Mike Portnoy... about Mike Orlando... "He's remarkable, isn't he?"

Mike Orlando is a very impressive player. I've heard of him before, but he really dazzles on these cuts.

"He's remarkable, isn't he? Truly New York's best-kept-secret, in my opinion, but not for long. He's like a three-pronged monster. He's got riffs for days – he reminds me of a Dimebag in the kinds of riffs he comes up with. That's one side of him; the other side is that he's a complete shredder. He can play solos right up there with the biggest guitar heroes out there. And the third side is, he's a wonderful engineer. He's got his own studio, and he knows how to get the most awesome sounds. Talk about a multi-talented guy. I think this album will break him out of his anonymity. more

Jon Finn:
Hey guys! Sorry it's been so long since I last posted. Here's one of my faves by Satch. A few parts are a little fast because there are so many tempo changes in the song, and I couldn't play along with my beloved metronome. Thank-you for watching! :)

Warren Haynes: Blues Man is In Motion

Warren Haynes - "Man In Motion" EPK

Warren Haynes’ long-anticipated solo album, Man In Motion (Provogue Records), is a timeless collection of songs that crackle with modern vitality yet draw on his deepest roots as an artist. The disc pumps fresh blood into the heart of soul and blues, stoked by Haynes’s Herculean prowess as both a powerhouse singer and guitarist — a reputation he’s earned as a member of three of the greatest live groups in rock history: The Allman Brothers Band, The Dead and his own Gov’t Mule. In a sense, the vocal-driven Man In Motion is an album he’s been aching to make since he first dreamed of becoming a musician. “Before I started playing guitar, I wanted to be a singer, right from the age of five or six,” the rock ‘n’ roll legend regales. “And what I wanted to sing was soul music. My brothers and I had just a handful of albums. First they were the ‘Best of’ collections by Sam & Dave, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, the Temptations, Aretha Franklin…and eventually albums by the three Kings of the blues, Freddie King, B.B. King and Albert King. In fact, it was hearing B.B. and Freddie that made me realize you could be a great singer and a great guitar player. So I decided to model myself after them.”
