Larry Coryell: announces New 3CD Box Of Live Recordings!

Jazz Guitar Icon Larry Coryell Shows His Multifaceted Talents On A New 3CD Box Of Live Recordings!

"Los Angeles, CA - One of the most respected and celebrated jazz fusion guitarists of his generation, Larry Coryell presents a brand new triple disc box set of unreleased live performances. Titled Aurora Coryellis, this captivating collection highlights Coryell’s prodigious talents in a multitude of settings, from a full band performance in 1972 at the Jazz Wokshop in Boston to a solo acoustic show in 1976 at Clark University (Worchester, MA) plus a more recent appearance in 2002 at the San Jose Jazz Fest with his talented trio featuring award winning drummer Paul Wertico and bassist Jeff Chambers! Each of these performances come on separate CDs in their own sleeves housed in a deluxe box with a lavish, full color booklet featuring extensive liner notes based on a new interview with Mr. Coryell himself. The box will be released July 24 from Purple Pyramid Records.

Reflecting on this collection, Coryell states, “I have fond memories of the high integrity of the students in Worcester, MA; it was always a special place. Of course, The Jazz Workshop Boston was kind of a ‘home base’ from where we developed our music in the ‘70s, when we were trying to create something that respected the basics of jazz but was still a new form of music. Club manager, Freddie Taylor, was our number one booster as we ventured into uncharted territory. And what can I say about beautiful San Jose! A great city with great people and an absolutely beautiful outdoor park in the center of town. Playing with Jeff Chambers and Paul Wertico was an exhilarating journey into the essence of jazz!”

Born in Texas, Larry Coryell began his ascent to the upper echelons of jazz virtuosos in the mid ‘60s when he joined the quintet of famed drummer Chico Hamilton in New York. That gig led to several other stints as a sideman for Gary Burton, Herbie Mann, and Randy Brecker among others. In 1968, he released his debut album Lady Coryell at the young age of 25, which then lead to subsequent solo album and the formation of his own group The Eleventh House. Through these releases, Coryell earned international acclaim for his daring compositions and interpretations as well as his inspired improvisations. He continues to perform shows and release new albums regularly. For those unfamiliar with this living legend, Aurora Coryellis is the perfect place to start!

Robben Ford: super smooth guitar work MEZZ Breda 2015

Another super smooth guitar work from Robben Ford, when he and his band played the MEZZ venue in Breda, The Netherlands on Friday, May 1st, 2015.

Extract from Robben's website: Guitar virtuoso Robben Ford’s new album ‘Into The Sun’ shines a bright light on his artful, contemporary songwriting and the stunning playing that’s made him a favorite foil of Miles Davis, Joni Mitchell, George Harrison and other legends….his extensive discography, which embraces more than 35 albums under his own name and with his various bands. There’s also Ford’s session and sideman work, which includes hundreds of concert appearances and albums by Bonnie Raitt, Barbara Streisand, Charlie Musselwhite, KISS, Ruthie Foster, Jimmy Witherspoon and Rickie Lee Jones. ‘Into the Sun’, which follows last year’s critically acclaimed A Day In Nashville and 2013’s Bringing It Back Home, explores the breadth of Ford’s sophisticated, visionary writing and playing, creating a new chapter in his brilliant musical history. The album features a coterie of guests: gritty Southern rock newcomer Tyler Bryant on “Stone Cold Heaven,” Allman Brothers guitarist and Gov’t Mule frontman Warren Haynes on “High Heels And Throwing Things,” slide guitar guru Sonny Landreth on “So Long 4 U,” Americana and blues icon Keb’ Mo’ and pedal steel wizard Robert Randolph on “Justified,” and vocal sensation ZZ Ward on “Breath Of Me.” Niko Bolas, whose credits include Neil Young, John Mayer and Keith Richards, engineered.
...supporting harmonica virtuoso Charlie Musselwhite. Later, Robben played with blues giant Jimmy Witherspoon on festival stages. In 1974, Robben joined the historic fusion group Tom Scott & The L.A. Express and began touring with Joni Mitchell. Later that year ex-Beatle George Harrison enlisted Ford and Scott to join him on his Dark Horse tour, which was followed by more touring with Joni Mitchell. Ford went on to record and tour with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan, Phil Lesh and a host of others. By the time he joined Miles Davis’ group in the ’80s, he’d developed a signature approach based on an axis of blues, jazz, pop and rock. Since leaving Davis’ band, Ford has primarily forged his own path — touring and cutting a series of varied sounding albums with the Ford Brothers, Blue Line and Renegade featuring fellow guitar master Michael Landau.

PRS Celebrates S2 Anniversary with new Metallic Finishes

(Stevensville, MD) July 9, 2015 – To celebrate the second anniversary of the PRS S2 Series, PRS is introducing two new metallic finishes, “Ice Blue Fire Mist” and “Egyptian Gold”, to the all-mahogany guitars in the S2 line, including the S2 Mira, Mira Semi-Hollow, Singlecut Standard, Standard 22, Standard 24, Starla and Vela.

The new metallic finishes utilize various sizes of metallic flake resulting in a shimmering finish that shows off the contours of the guitar. Rich Hannon, PRS Artist Relations & Development representative promises that the new S2 metallic finishes will soon be debuted on stages across the country in several “shining” new bands.

In 2013, US manufacturer, Paul Reed Smith Guitars unveiled a new line of electric guitars called the “S2 Series”. Considered one of the most significant product launches in the company’s history, the S2 Series of instruments were originally available in three models – the S2 Starla, S2 Mira, and S2 Custom 24. Over the course of two years, PRS has introduced several semi-hollow instruments, a group of all-mahogany pickguard guitars, as well as the popular S2 Vela featuring an offset body style. Each model offers the fit, feel and attention to detail the craftsmen of PRS are known for in a more accessible price point: $1,179 - $1,579 USD. S2 Series guitars have been road tested by a diverse group of musicians (from The Lower Dens to Keb Mo) and on stages at festivals across the country, including SXSW, the Vans Warped Tour, Rock on the Range, Carolina Rebellion, and Welcome to Rockville.

The significant investment from PRS in developing the S2 series is the continuation of a long-term plan to supply more artists and players with tools to create music by diversifying the company’s offerings both vertically and horizontally. With their retro-inspired vibe, hallmark PRS quality, popular price tag, and now, metallic finishes, the S2 Series has become a new voice and aesthetic for the music industry.
