Stephen Platt: Dual Solo Thing

Stephen Platt Recorded this for fun. To me it sounds a bit Megadeth-like but I'm not really much of a fan of them. Was just trying out Mic techniques with one of my Laney VH100R's.

Florian Hofer, Atma Anur: .the Mothership story

The brain-child of guitarist/vocalist Florian Hofer and drummer/producer Atma Anur, this brand new 4 piece power-funk band was conceived mostly on line. When the duo met in Krakow Poland, on holiday, they knew it was a 'ship' worth boarding. After writing a few songs the boys got right to the business of putting a full band together. This set of video clips previews the bands first ep release, Bottom of the Sea. EP-Song list: On My Knees, Bottom of the Sea, Shadowed Light, and Mothership

Andy James: announces ICMP London exclusive masterclass

Metal Guitarist Andy James to host exclusive masterclass at the Institute

The Guitar Institute (part of London’s Institute of Contemporary Music Performance) is proud to welcome one of the UK’s leading metal guitarists, Andy James, for an intimate and exclusive guitar masterclass focusing on techniques and musical creativity at their London facility on Friday 30th September 2011.
Andy James is a master technician and a major contributor to the Lick Library in heavy rock and metal styles. As a songwriter he shows creative flare and originality, having recently released his debut self-titled solo album through Transcend Music. Now endorsed by Blackstar Amplification, ESP Guitars and Rotosound, Andy can be found holding workshops and masterclasses as far afield as N.A.M.M. and it has just been confirmed that 2011 will see Andy release his very own custom signature ESP guitar.

Andy will be talking with students from the Institute about his experience, the development of his technique and the importance of originality and creativity as a musician. A graduate of the Guitar Institute in 2004, Andy has a wealth of knowledge to impart on how to build a career as a musician during your studies and after graduating. Having recently been voted in the top 20 of all time shredders by TruthInShredding.com, one of the world’s most popular specialist guitar website, this is a masterclass not to be missed.

Following the masterclass, Andy will also be joined by his band, Sacred Mother Tongue, for a live gig at the Good Ship, Kilburn. The set will comprise material from Sacred Mother Tongue's new album, as well as tracks from Andy's self-titled album release, including the leading track 'War March' and critics' choice 'Burn it Down'.

Niels Vejlyt: Sthenic new CD released

Best known as the guitarist and driving force behind metal outfit Infinity Overture, Danish guitar virtuoso Niels Vejlyt is about to make his mark on the guitar instrumental scene with his powerful solo debut ‘Sthenic’ on 16th September 2011 fully loaded with a bonus DVD!

Already no stranger to guitar fanatics worldwide thanks to numerous instructional DVD’s, books and his own online guitar school, ‘Sthenic’ is a long awaited release for Neils Vejlyt’s legion of fans worldwide and is also sure to attract many newcomers.

With a sound reminiscent at times of instrumental offerings from Jeff Loomis, John Petrucci and Steve Vai etc, ‘Sthenic’ sees Vejlyt serve up 8 tracks that blend intricate heavy riffs with exciting grooves and chord progressions over which Niels’ formidable lead technique takes the album over the edge!

With a strong core backing band of Jakob Vand (Infinity Overture) and bassist Kris Gildenlow (ex Pain Of Salvation), Niels has taken the live approach of a classic 3 piece and worked from that basic premise adding further textures and rhythm guitars to build a strong wall of sound. This live feel to the music manages to bring a direct sound often lacking in ‘overdub city’ guitar offerings and also make the album more palatable for even the most hardened cynic.

Mixed and mastered by the legendary Tommy Hansen (Helloween, Jørn Lande, Circus Maximus) ‘Sthenic’ boasts a strong and powerful production which further enhances the listening experience and makes this a true scorcher of a release for guitar fans worldwide. order

Jeff Beck: working with Robert Plant?

Jeff Beck suggests that the duo may be working together in an exclusive interview with Planet Rock

Rob Birnie spoke to the guitar legend yesterday about his forthcoming Living Legend award at the Classic Rock Awards, and during the interview Rob asked Jeff about whether in this day in age, when supergroups are particularly fashionable, he had been tempted to form a band with some of his famous friends.

He answered: "There's whispers about Robert Plant."

"I met him recently," Jeff continued. "He came into my dressing room. I was playing in the New Orleans Jazz Rock Blues Festival. I said to my manager 'Get out of my dressing room and let me sleep for 20 minutes. I haven't slept all night. You let anybody in here and i'm gonna knock em out.' And then I hear 'Alright. How you doin'?' and it was Robert Plant!

"We had a lovely chat. I think maybe he saw the act; I put on a pretty good show. And I think that there may be something there. Who knows? more
