Julien Carayon: Tribute to Steve Vai

When I wrote songs for my last "Alpha" album I decided to record both the audio and video of every idea I came up with. I ended up with huge amount of video sequences. I thought it is a cool idea to create a music video to illustrate a full song from my "Alpha" album.
This song is a tribute to Steve Vai. "V" for "Five". "V" for "Vai" as well. I used various instruments such as a flugelhorn, a strings section, a piano, a DX keyboard and Drawbar Organ to create an instrumentation which mixes classical music and jazz influence in a rock ballad.
Yes, I know, this is all about another lenghty song.
I like to take the time to develop a story. Please, take the time to listen and watch the whole song.

Kostas Karamitroudis: Gus G Fluid D Dorian Legato Run

Today's lick is a fast, fluid-sounding legato run based on the D Dorian mode (D E F G A B C). I rely on consecutive hammer-ons and pull-offs to articulate many of the notes and use finger slides to seamlessly shifts positions as I ascend the fretboard. Using finger slides allows me to continue up a single string without having to interrupt my smooth, legato phrasing with an unwanted pick attack.

The diagonal lines in the notation indicate the finger slides and also point out the location for each position shift. Each shift is deliberately selected for maximum efficiency, and in each case you'll notice the index finger only needs to slide up one fret, whereas shifting at any other spot on each string would require a two-fret slide. The single-fret slide is ideal here because it reduces the chance that I'll overshoot the target note when performing the lick at breakneck speed.

Be sure to check out the fingerings indicated in the notation so that you can more closely study the optimal fret-hand-shifting locations.
The tempo is 210 beats per minute, 125 for slow practice.

Keith Whalen: Weird Interval Arpeggios - guitar and piano!

I was fooling around on the piano and trying to come up with some bizarre arpeggios with lesser played intervals. After finding a few cool ones I decided to see how they could be applied to the guitar! Some of them are very playable and translate well to both alternate picking and sweeping, but some are too spacious and gave me a hard time.

Sam Bell: Reverse Linear Scale Concept Legato

In this lesson we look at taking our scale sequences and visualising them reverse lineally, this approach is used by countless guitarists such as Richie Kotzen, Rusty Cooley, Allan Holdsworth, Derek Taylor, Tosin Abasi, Paul Gilbert, Greg Howe, the list goes on!

There is no tab with this video, In this video I also explain the importance of tabbing ideas for yourself, and how it can really ingrain an idea into your playing and understanding of the guitar fretboard.
