Jeff Loomis: it could really bite us in the ass

With the new album being more straightforward, have you scaled back your playing at all?
Not really. There’s been so much stuff in the past that we’ve done that had really guitar-oriented things going on within the songs. On this one, there are more chords than single-note runs. The whole structures of the songs have been simplified.

What was the reason for the new approach on this record?
I’m not sure why we took this approach, other than we wanted it to be easier for the listener to catch onto. It could be a good thing for us, or it could really bite us in the ass, but it will be interesting and has made the anticipation very high for us on this record. full interview
