Get your favorite tube amp with plenty of distortion and follow the instructions to acheive smooth legato bliss.
I use a valvetronix by VOX (without pedal) and of course the Allan Holdsworth UD STOMP (find one on ebay probably). Roll the treble all the way off and if needed the mids too. PS - keep in mind that sequencing with legato requires fairly sophisticated and syncopated hybrid picking technique.
