  1. I was blessed to be standing backstage at the Dallas International Guitar Festival when George took his solo spot in the "Saturday Nite Jam." He had some audio problems with his amp early on,got that straightened out before playing..but encountered a problem during his solo with his Fender guitar.

He eased over to my side of the stage, unplugged the Fender & passed it to the stage crew. He then flipped open the case of a black Gibson Les Paul he had just purchased, plugged into his amp and sat down on the amp and proceeded to tear the place down. He finished his solo at center stage, kneeling down with his guitar across his knee..he left his strap on the Fender guitar. As he came off the stage, he put both hands to his face..frustrated..and said,"Oh my God,that was TERRIBLE!" No way,George...it was one of the very best performances I've ever seen. Check some of the photos available of that performance. You'll notice the change of guitars. Look closely at the black Gibson..you can see the price tag is still on a tag hanging from the headstock. How many players do you think could pull off what George did ????
