Background:
I Wayan Balawan began to play guitar at the age of eight. Afterleaving high school in 1992 he received a scholarship in 1993 to study at The Australian Institute of Music in Sydney for three years.

His guitar style ranges from jazz to classical and is influenced by John McLaughin, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Stanley Jordan and Pat Metheny. This clearly show througnh in his playing styles which show that he can play the guitar either by picking in the conventional way or by using the Touch Style ala Stanley Jordan. He has played with guitarists such as Tommy Emmanuel.

He is best known for his touch style, for using two guitars at once using a 12 string guitar he designed himself.
