Background:
Mateus Starling began to play guitar at the age of 13. His early influences were rock players like Steve Vai, Satriani and Richie Kotzen. At the age of 16 Mateus was playing professionally in night clubs throughout the state of Rio de Janeiro. He also released his first solo instrumental album with nine songs that were influenced by rock and Brazilian music. As a result of this album his work was mentioned in the most popular rock magazine at that time, rock brigade, as "the future of brazilian guitarists."

In 1997 he moved to Rio de Janeiro, playing with different bands, recording and giving guitar lessons. He formed the band Karambah a band that mixed latin pop music with Brazilian music, rhythms such as forro, afoxé, samba and baião.

In 2000 he recorded another solo album specially made as a television soundtrack. The album was very useful and it is still used in TV commercials and radios jingles.

In 2001 he recorded more instrumental songs in a trio format. Then, in 2003, the Karambah band released an album called "em mãos". THe release enabled them accessto Tv programs and radio programs, music festivals.

In 2004 he began to study with Helio Delmiro, one of the most respected guitar players in Brazil, studying harmony and ear training at CIGAM. At this year I began to play, record and compose on the gospel music.

In 2005 he received a partial scholarship at Berklee through the BEST scholarship.
