Jeremy Krull: goes all west coast on me!

Friends, Romans, non-Romans, and Countrymen (from all countries),

Every so often it is necessary to (brutally) change things up, be it for the sake of keeping things fresh or in some cases for the sake of one's survival. The last few years since I graduated from college in 2008 have been eventful, however not entirely fruitful. It has been a learning experience as well as a journey in multiple regards however it has become abundantly clear to me that the time has come to venture further outward and to no longer wait for the improvement of a situation that is incapable of improving.

Over the last two years, heavy investigation has gone into the possibility of relocating primarily for professional reasons. All in all, it came down to three different locations, two of which were out of the country and one of those was entirely off the continent and across an ocean. In the end I have to go where it makes logical sense to be, where I wouldn't have to wait for a work Visa, where I wouldn't have to ship heaps of my gear across the ocean…and most importantly, where the bulk of my friends and contacts currently reside.

As of January 2012 it was decided that I would put plans to move to the west coast into full gear. For the first time, the normal yearly NAMM trip was extended so that I had a few days before traveling down to Anaheim to start investigating. In the end of March I traveled out to LA again, this time entirely for the sake of looking at specific apartment buildings as well as meeting some fairly new colleagues/being made aware of some truly industry-changing technologies. Finally, from May 3rd to May 9th I was out again in LA for what ended up being the final round of apartment building tours/viewing.

I am now going to tell you something that some of you will find rather impossible to believe…as of the first week of July 2012, I/Jeremy Krull/Strategic Sonics/Lord Of All Assholes will be relocating to the North Hollywood area for at least the next year. I know I know, how is that possible right? Pigs flying…the sky falling…dogs and cats living together…well it's happening.

It was after strong deliberation that it ended up being LA. I need to be in the presence of a healthy entertainment industry environment, and I need to meet more/new people, and to network in the real-life sense…not just the internet sense anymore. I was more living in denial than anything else when it came to trying to stick it out in New York and frankly at this point the situation in the New York City metro area absolutely will not improve unless there is a literal miracle to be worked (with the exception of the large mastering studios, you guys are safe). It's a sad state of affairs, but this is what happens when an industry community is pitted against itself. Out west, of course competition is extremely fierce, but studios (yea plural, more than one major studio still exists in LA, imagine that?) still help each other and refer overflow bookings to each other etc…

Consider this an experiment, and furthermore consider it temporary, even if it lasts a long time. I already know from the meetings and trips of the last few months (even the last two years), that there is a FAR better chance of actually sustaining myself out there than here…and dare I say actually be paid what my work is worth (for once). It will be a challenging time, but also an exciting time, in uncharted territory if you will. In case anyone is worried, which I doubt you are, I will still be me. I will neither change or compromise for anyone unless it is of my own volition. I look forward to bringing people the best of my creative output that I can possibly offer, and I look toward the future with anticipation as well as positive energy.

Thank you all for your enduring support, I would not have been able to make such a decision without you,

NY, NJ, PA, MA, wherever you're from folks, there WILL most certainly be a going away party.
Sincerely,

Jeremy Krull
