Chris Letchford: Talks about Influences, Guitar at guitarsphere.com

In your opinion, what are the three skills that every guitarist must bring to perfection?

CL: I think it really comes down to the player and the style they are after. I tried to do classical and electric at the same time while in music school and they are truly separate instruments. I decided on electric as I really want to dedicate the time to attempt mastering it in my lifetime. Trying to practice both, one would end up being neglected. So if we were talking about just electric I think that the most important is learning the notes on the board, it makes transitioning from 6, 7 and 8 string 100 times easier and will help with improv, song writing and just overall understanding the instrument. As for the 2nd and 3rd thing, thats really tough, for me it was picking and fret hand efficiency… this led to being able to pick up things on the guitar way faster.
