Jeff Kollman: into the unknown

Acclaimed Southern California heavy fusioneers COSMOSQUAD, featuring guitarist Jeff Kollman (GLENN HUGHES, MOGG/WAY), bassist Christopher Maloney (DWEEZIL ZAPPA, HARDLINE), and drummer Shane Gaalaas (B'Z, DIESEL MACHINE), have announced their first ever Japanese shows. The band will be playing a pair of double headers (showtime: 7pm and 9pm) in Osaka and Tokyo and also appear at the Musician's Institute in Tokyo (open to students only!). A Los Angeles area show has been booked for April 4th at the Baked Potato in North Hollywood.

Exact dates and venues are as follows:

March 12 - Live Square 2nd Line, Osaka, Japan
March 14 - Shibuya Duo Music Exchange, Tokyo, Japan
March 15 - Musician's Institute, Tokyo, Japan
April 4 - Baked Potato, North Hollywood, CA

In other news, Kollman will be officially unveiling his new instrumental
venture THE BOMBASTIC MEATBATS, also featuring fellow Glenn Hughes alumni
Chad Smith (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS) on drums and Ed Roth ..boards, along
with bassist Kevin Chown, with two back to back shows at Baked Potato on Saturday, March1st
(showtime: 9pm and 11pm). In addition, the MEATBATS will be heading to
Japan for a club tour in late April; dates listed below. The
group's upcoming 11-song debut CD is finished and mastered. Recorded analog and live in the studio.

Jeff Kollman has lined up a number of performances at this year's NAMM show in Anaheim, CA. Kollman appears with bassist Christopher Maloney and drummer Glen Sobel to play a set of COSMOSQUAD tunes at the Fender Frontline stage on Thursday, January 17 (2:00 p.m.) and Friday, January 18 (5:00 p.m.)

Ultimate guitar deliver a video interview with Jeff Kollman.
His latest project is his own labor of love, Cosmosquad, which he likes to describe as a metal-fusion band. Combining technical ability with an amazing sense of song (a few songs are even reminiscent of Tool), Kollman’s latest record Acid Test takes instrumental records to a new extreme.


06-11-2007:
Jeff Kollman and his Cosmosquad have been confirmed for an exclusive Fender Event - Nov. 6, 2007. The fourth annual "Fender Bass Bash", a special "invitation-only" event hosted online by www.rehearsals.com on November 15 at Center Staging in Burbank, CA. Also Cosmosquad appear at the Baked Potato in Universal City, CA on Friday, November 16.

The band is currently editing live HD multi-cam footage from its recent Musician's Institute gig for the first-ever Cosmosquad DVD.

Jeff Kollman has also formed a new instrumental group featuring drummer Chad Smith, Kevin Chown, Ed Roth. The band's debut album, which is due out in early 2008, has already been recorded and is currently in the mixing stages.

You get kids that come into MI [Musicians Institute] that are 18 or 19 that just can't play at the session level because they didn't spend the time to practice since they were 12. If you don't have it down by the time you're 18, I'm not sure you're going to because by then you have adult responsibilities and it's hard. They have visions of becoming an L.A. session player, and I'm thinking, "Wait a minute. It's just not going to happen." Maybe a rare few.

Background:
Jeff Kollman was born in Granada Hills, California. Kollman started playing guitar in 1978, and has set his sites on being a big LA session player.

His initial musical influences include Jimi Hendrix, butis now interested in a broader range of music everything but country, King's X, Pat Martino, big band, bebop, Brazilian music, Tower Of Power and Messugah!

Since then Jeff has been a solo artist, a member of Edwin Dare, fusion trio Cosmosquad, MOGG/WAY's and Glen Hughes. Jeff also played with The Michael Schenker Group on the G3 tour with Joe Satriani and Uli Jon Roth.

Jeff's latest group is JKB, a power trio with bassist Kevin Chown and drummer Charlie Waymire.
