Edward Box: picks his top guitar idols

News:
06-06-2008:
Hey it must be good, I even got a name check... I've always liked that Edward Box guy!

So here's the list as described by Ed:

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/andré-noronha
http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/silvio-gazquez

These two were in my final 12 but couldn't make it. They both had lovely phrasing and Noronha had one of the best compositions in my opinion.

Dimi was just outside my 12 but in the end he couldn't come. He is a top player.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/conrad-harpham

Conrad is a top fusion/rock player and I particularly enjoyed his arpeggio burn out!

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/carlo-bardoli
Superb for a 14 year old, his treatment by the phantom emailer disgusts me. Carlo will reign supreme one day.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/alex-flouros
Alex created a really nice, dramatic entry.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/constantine
This was really metal and was a good song with some furious soloing.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/diogo-sergel
Diogo may not have caught everyone's eye but he has great feel and a nice line in pinch harmonics.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/erik-norheim
Erik was in my final 12. One of the best compositions and he has great feel and melody. He was very close I reckon.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/greg-fitch
Really interesting composition and playing. One of the most unique entries.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/hard-alexandre
Top SRV style blues.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/lavaman

This song is cool and quite evil. I wouldn't want to mess with the Lavaman!

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/martial-allart
Great riffing on this track and some great shredding.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/scott-jones
Scott is 'out' there in the best sense of the word. Guitar playing without compromise.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/masahiro-aoki
Mashiro made my final 12. A simply brilliant composition with one of the most original riffs I've heard in a while.

Unbelievable shredding. This guys arpeggios are faster than a Ferrari!

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/mattrach
The most controversial entrant! Matt is a great musician for his age and his industrious approach is inspirational. There is no doubt that he has contributed immensely to this competition. He was always in my thoughts but in the end he just missed the cut for me. I'm sure he will be back and, in a few years time, I'm sure his playing will be of a standard to go all the way. Lets face it he is not too much of a slouch at the moment! To all his fans: Remember that he is only 17, he has time.

This was in my final 12. Great song and very well recorded with some nice Halen/Nuno style playing.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/plectrumhead-tony-albert
This was my favourite use of my own backing track! I loved Tony's use of the wah and his interpretation of the chord changes.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/cesar-huesca

My other favourite of mine! Awesome diminished lick at the end, which I will probably steal.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/celta
Celta caught the attention very early on and was a close candidate.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/james-buckley

More top Nuno style playing.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/jonas-h%C3%B6rnqvist
Jonas has a great Malmsteen style approach and is a true Swede.

http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/ricardo-walls
I absolutely love this guy and my mates and I have had a great time watching this and his other youtube appearances but Ricardo is more than just a comedian, he has great technique and was one of the most exciting entrants. Lollipops rule!

Of the 12 finalists, 6 were in my own top 12 and another 3 were just outside so I've got 9 of my fav's there so that's great. I think the competition has been fantastic and I really think that the whole guitar community has come together on this one. Special thanks must go to Laurie Monk who has really helped to put it on the map and Owen and James for all their hard work. I hope this has provided some interesting reading for you and maybe I will see some of you in London. Roll on LGS!

All the best Ed.
