The Perfect 5th Musical Arts Center offers traditional music lessons, instrumental and vocal, from qualified instructors for every skill level, but it is much more than that. Private tutoring on audio recording equipment is available – everything from learning home recording software up to state-of-the-art professional recording studio gear. Video recording and post production lessons are also offered. The music business is covered in group workshops and private consultations for musicians and those entering the industry.

Various curriculums that address the needs of local school districts as well as home and cyber schooled children are in development. Students will be able to take lessons and attend classes at the school with some courses also available over the internet. P5's director and co-founder, Eric Wirsing, a Berklee-trained musician who won first place in a recent Dean Guitars "Guitar God" contest, says "With a lack of arts funding in the school systems, it's the perfect time for local communities to take on the responsibility of passing down the importance of music in our lives. This is our ultimate goal at The Perfect 5th Musical Arts Center."

Special events, such as master classes, workshops and clinics, will be offered throughout the year at the P5 facility. Occasional larger events, like the Steve Vai master class, will happen off site.

Rock The Stage at P5 is the in-house rock school. Beginning in December of this year, rock band camps and semester-long programs will be offered. These will include individual lessons and weekly band practices, followed by a concert at a local venue.

The P5 building has newly constructed lesson rooms, classrooms and comfortable waiting areas. It is handicap accessible and free wifi is available throughout. Musical supplies are available for sale at the front desk.

Howard Hirsch is the co-founder and CEO. He explains the motivation for creating The Perfect 5th: "Opening a musical arts center has been a dream of mine for a long time. I've taken lessons for many years and my own musical journey has been enriching, however limited. I hope that this school will bring a roundedness in learning to teach not only the instrument but to bring a person to performance level, whether it be just for their own family or in a band." He continues, "I have been a business owner in this area for 30 years and hope to give back to our community by creating this musical arts center. A part of our mission is to generate charitable events such as the Steve Vai signed guitar that we are auctioning off with proceeds going to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Central PA. We're also hoping that in the future we can develop programs to give musical instruments and free lessons to underprivileged kids and adults."

Associate Director Terry Selders, owner of Susquehanna Entertainment and former manager of The Badlees, has enjoyed his time at P5 since joining the staff in July. "There's a great vibe here," he says, "lots of positive energy and attitudes. The desire to be a real help to people is paramount. Maybe you have a talented child, but are not sure what direction to take him or her. We can help define your goals and provide everything from lessons to career advice. If you only want music lessons, we have that. If you just bought some recording software but can't figure out how to use it, we can help. For working bands, it's often a question of how to promote themselves. We can show you how to develop and implement a plan to meet your goals. The idea is to provide focus and real learning opportunities for individuals at every stage of their musical life."
