Yvette Young: Guitar Saved My Life

Get an insight into the lives and minds of artists in our series of ‘Artist Breakthrough Stories,’ where we hear about their passions, how they got to where they are today, and their defining “breakthrough” story.

In the first episode, Yvette Young talks about her musical journey—from her life as a child with a disciplined classical music education to touring with her band Covet.

As Yvette experimented with playing guitar and learned to play it on her terms, she regained control over her life after being hospitalized for an eating disorder as a teenager. Through this recovery process, she was able to rediscover both art—in the form of songwriting and drawing—and music as a means of self-expression.

“I don’t think I would be “living” if I wasn’t following what felt authentic to me, if I wasn’t creating things that felt meaningful to me. I’m living, and for me that means doing stuff that I love. For me living is living and breathing art and music.” – Yvette Young.
