Gain doesn't have as much to do with sound as I once believed. You pulled some very nice metal sounds out during your review of the Bugera V55 combo. All three of those amps can shred. It comes down to tonal nuances.
Bugera has not only met industry standards in their current amp models, but exceeded those standards in the mew models. Just check out the Bugera Magician. Carvin's V3 is the leading boutique amp, yet, it doesn't have all those features.
I'll wager that Bugera has a good shot at attaining the acclaim that Marshall has enjoyed through the years.
